Anxiety

The Whispers Nobody Asked For

By iamnathoPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

I am overwhelmed, like a cat

That has been overstimulated by loud

Sudden noises and

Bright lights that hurt the eye

Except all of this chaos happens

In the silence of my mind

My expression remains

Calm and serene

Belying inner fractals

Falling to pieces

Into an unseen darkness.

I reach out, like a child

Seeking solace

Only to grasp emptiness

In place of comfort

Your voice too, drips with hurt

Competing to see whose

Pain screams louder...

And then Silence.

Sweet, sulking Silence

Save for the rumble

Of clothes tumbling

In the dryer.

Nothing has been resolved.

Nothing will be resolved.

And Anxiety whispers,

"I told you so."
