Author's Note: The Ojibwe language is the language of the Anishinabe/Chippewa people, which I am a member. Just a few words and notes from the culture.

~~

Moon of the falling leaves is one name for October

October is considered the hunters' moon

October is also referred to as the harvest moon

Now, there is also the drying rice moon

~~

Dear Moon,

Shining so bright

I love your beautiful light

in the darkest of night

I hear stories of what happens

on a full moon, from hospitals,

jails, crisis shelters,

and treatment centers.

Every third moon, I can tell

the difference in me

I can get restless, I yell,

irritable, and discontent, you see

It really isn't how I want to be.

What else can I do but be prepared? Well?

It is just two more days, so we

will wait and see. I'm feeling pretty

good right now. It doesn't take long

to turn it all around. It is just wrong.

Really is a sad, sad song, poor John!

Big Bad John, is the song

I sing at this time and try to rhyme.

The only thing to tell will be time.

Please moon shine your light bright tonight

on me and mine, as it is my bedtime.

Miigwech/Thank you!
