My First Husband
I loved that man, but balancing the light and dark got to be too much
Young, when we met, I was only fifteen
You were just now home from the service
handsome, fun, and you were a bit nervous
We were engaged when I was but sixteen
in love and soon married at seventeen
Going to school and worked in foodservice
He drove truck. Thought it was a disservice
to me. We were together for eighteen.
~
Two children and too many drugs and drinking
I cried a lot and I couldn't help you
Missing you out in bars, I kept shrinking
My days were long and at night I was blue
Times you were home, I couldn't stop thinking
It wasn't working out so then I flew

I love the raw honesty woven into these verses. You don’t shy away from pain, but there’s resilience shining through.
This was an episode in your life you had to live so that your current life is what it is. Good job.
Somethings have to end four our life to get better. Sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️
A sad relationship, but the poem format makes it sound lighter. I get the impression of "oh well, it's in the past, not a big deal anymore".
