A Portent of Winter's Reign

Frosted Verse Challenge Entry.

By Paul StewartPublished about a year ago 1 min read

transfixed, transformed I was

as the world slept in wait

of the sun's return

my former existence

is a memory that escapes me,

though it is locked

into my very fabric

#

myriads upon myriads of my kin

fell in one night,

touched by the crisp, unforgiving, unrelenting cold

we—now as one, as we were in our former state

frozen for eternity over the land.

though the shock was to our system

one both aggressive but expected,

we still sparkle with deep joy

#

as the sun rises

over the land

we cast with a white canvas

the gentle warmth

melts the cold exterior

our solidified existence

reflecting

the sun's radiance and grace

a crystalline magic, glacial illusion

our purpose, a sign, a portent

of winter's reign

I got pulled in by the cover photo, my gosh what a great choice 😍 Ooo ‘locked into my very fabric’. That first bit blew me away, it’s such an inviting start. The rhythm is so deeply thrilling too. I love how this bit is fast ‘touched by the crisp, unforgiving, unrelenting cold’ mimicking perfectly how the coldness just roll in on us, then you slowed it down with ‘we..’ and it took my breath with it. Oh my oh my. This line ‘ …the gentle warmth melts the cold exterior our solidified existence reflecting the sun's radiance and grace ‘ I love how you very cleverly wrapped two meanings into this. This was a treat to read Paul, I am so very impressed 👏🏽👌🏽🤗♥️
