A Poem a Day in February
It starts tomorrow, not the 31st of January
I announced early this morning that it was time for a Poem a Day in February! I woke at 4:55 and couldn't get back to sleep. I was excited. Each year it is so much fun to write poetry every day.
I said we were going to start with rhymes and that there would be a contest with prizes for the very best rhymes in one week.
Then it happened. One of the most dedicated poets sent a message. It is not February. It is January 31, 2024!
So, I posted some rhyming haiku and asked others to take a look and see what they could do with a rhyming haiku!
Haiku, “Japanese poem, 3 lines, 5, 7, 5 syllables per line. Often focusing on images of nature, simplicity intensity, directness of expression.” 2 samples of rhyming haiku that I wrote.
1)The door is ajar
Learning so much from afar
The sun, moon and stars
~
2)Blowing snow white light
Glorious trees what a sight
Sparkling so bright
And someone responded with an excellent rhyming haiku! I guess we started today, even if it wasn't February!
I pulled out my booklet from last year and it was probably too large to post as a pdf or anything else. It was great, complete with winning poetry from the month and others that were written during the month.
A couple of writers on Vocal had a few poems entered in contests last February. And they follow:
