A kiss by the devil

A poem about darkness taking control.

One look was all it took.

I was hooked.

Silver eyes piercing mine.

Like stars dissolved into water.

I stopped breathing.

His gaze followed me everywhere.

A predator closing in on its prey.

Fear took its hold,

Pinned me in place.

A drop of sweat trickled down my temple.

I was a prisoner,

glued to the floor.

I trembled, as if my body were trying to take control again.

His very being sang to me,

captured me and prevented me from leaving.

He had a beautiful voice, I knew it… and yet, he hadn’t uttered a word.

His voice roamed over me,

danced through my veins,

like blood.

He reached me in two strides.

His breath washed over my face.

It was scorching.

Then he smiled, teeth and dimples.

And the pain was gone.

He inched even closer to me,

Placed his lips on mine,

A kiss.

He tasted sweet, like honey, but also dark like sin.

It was the devil’s mark.

He made me his own,

Took my soul,

Left me bare,

empty.

I was lost.

I belonged to him.

My life was in his hands,

To destroy.

Or cherish.

He brushed my cheek,

His touch careful.

Tender.

But despite it all,

It was a threat.

My life was no longer my own.

He had taken what he considered his,

A single moment — and my control was gone.
