Sonnet of Shadows Challenge

A Gift?

I long for sunny days and fair weather

too seldom have I welcomed storms and rain

my heart, becomes as parched as dry leather

devoid of grief or trials… such a bane.

I ever yearn to leap and laugh and play

I would not invite sadness nor sorrow

into my life, not even for one day

the mere idea would spoil tomorrow.

Yet… dark and bright hues create tapestries

so exquisite, my spirit they uplift

brushes with cancer, illness, injuries

I’ve not gladly accepted as a gift.

But, sickness and health and darkness and light

all teach me to walk by faith… not by sight.

This truly captures the spirit of the challenge; dark and light blending perfectly. Good luck in the challenge!

While I am so sad to hear of your brushes with cancer Angie, I am so honoured to have read this poem <3

Heartfelt little Sonnet Angie with lot is beautiful images and lines. I meant to comment on your last piece if that was a personal cancer reference as I was not sure, but didn’t want to assume. Not a fun time. Mum has just found she has breast cancer again, but it is a lower stage I believe. Not sure the treatment until next week. Her first time was in 2017. Thoughts out to you if you’ve been through something similar.☹️

  • So very beautiful, Angie! I could feel your intensity and emotion in your words.

The way you close with faith as the guiding thread gives the poem both strength and hope. Great work!
