A Fate Unavoidable
Savvy Savannah’s September Challenge
Savannah has released her first challenge on Vocal and DAMN was it a good one! She asks of us to “Write a poem, inspired by or referencing at least one character of Greek Myth*, and mention at least one season of the year. The poem needs to consist of twelve lines.”
This was not easy! I scrapped at least three versions. But here’s what I’ve come up with…
The Fates can neither be tempted nor swayed by hope
This winter is a cobbled course set in ice
A path that may split, yet shall merge again
Journey may vary, travellers change
Yet frigid winters stay the same
Those who prepare, know this well
Those who question, perish
Once your deal is sealed
You can’t deny
Cold shall come
Beware
Fate

Ooof! There is SO much I love about this one! Firstly, the Fates are some of my favourite characters of myth as they are, as you so excellently put untempted and unswayed by hope or any other force. The chilling imagery of winter is incredible too! "cold shall come beware fate" my goodness there are so many layers to those last lines! Thank you so much for your support, encouragement, and for entering the challenge! 🩷🩷🩷
This is a chilling poem about the coldness of fate and the fatefulness of a cold winter. You did wonderfully in your take on Savannah's challenge. I especially love that first line. Well done!
