A Conversation with a Weary Body: A Tale of Patience and Faith
YOU TERRIFIED ME

A Conversation with a Weary Body: A Tale of Patience and Faith
You terrified me,
You pained me,
I gazed, lost for a moment,
And found a worn-out body, lifeless and stretched,
With nothing left but a head of wisdom,
And a speaking mouth, praising unceasingly,
And a forefinger still proclaiming oneness.

So I asked him,
“What did he do to deserve such a fate?”
He said, “Time and its judgments,
Defeated youth early on,
And praise to the Merciful, my Lord, as my witness.
I am pure,
I lived in devotion and monotheism,
A guest in this world,
And I was never oppressive.”

If a day of generous good came,
I would hasten to the Merciful in gratitude, worshipful and humble,
And if a day like this came, a harsh reality,
I would bear it with patience, hoping for tomorrow.
All hope lies in a servant who praises,

Who knew the One God,
Knowing full well that tomorrow holds the best promise.
Either salvation and safety come securely,
In a moment,
Or God's command was issued and fulfilled,
A decree recorded for the world.
Its remedy and healing
Are patience and praise,
So that I may win early,
Either appearing in the Kingdom,
Or cured from affliction,
Grateful and thankful.
