30,000 Steps
A positive poem for a change from my venty poetry since I am on holiday

30,000 steps to start writing...
But write about what?
My heart was bled dry
From a narcissist or two
But they are far away now
I can't let them spoil my holiday
They were jealous of the strong bonds
I have with my best friends
Envious of the soul siblings
👣
30,000 steps later none of it matters
Through the steep steps and the subtle fog
The red thumbs and aching feet fight
For liberation from the 9-5
The chimney cakes and mulled wine
All as sweet as ever but not much on
The waist or the wallet but since I am
Walking it off it is a sin repented
And kindness to one self
👣
Where I sleep is a white veil
The corridors are decorated with
Art and memoirs of guests past, present
And future. Where tea and coffee is free
And staples like rice and pasta are too
It's great for solo travellers on a budget
Where the cost of things that delayed dreams
But they won't shatter mine.
👣
30,000 steps later I realise
That I was meant to be here
They are strangers but they are family
I am foreign yet I am home
I am in my element in this gothic path
