a poem

I don't want to live in 1984,

where the facts aren't treated as facts anymore.

I don't want the nationalism and isolation,

the bending down to a fascist fascination

with renaming bodies of water and committing to religious indoctrination.

I don't want an incorrect curriculum, not a single book banned

as if our reading scores aren't already down with the damned.

I don't want to erase DEI or bring back discrimination

on stolen land that was said to be a 'melting pot' nation.

I want empathy and peace and concrete human rights,

but in 2025, those words could start fights.

    fucking rebel anthemmmmmm

  • I hear ya, sister! And I wish I could print this out & plaster it on every building in the state of Kansas. Of course, I'd get lynched before I even made it out of town. (Got banned from a couple of pulpits just for having the audacity to suggest that Black lives actually really do matter--not only but also--& that there is good reason to wear masks during a pandemic so that we don't make others sick & endanger their lives.) Thank you for writing so eloquently that which I vent & spit about whenever I'm alone.

Oof, this one hits hard. Sharp, unapologetic, and painfully relevant. A punchy, necessary reminder that facts, rights, and empathy shouldn’t be up for debate—but here we are.
