ARCTIC BLAST
It's January. It's Winter. It's that time of the year when it snows. Except, snow rarely descends and covers the Dallas, Ft Worth area. Yet, the area is known for its occasional Arctic blast ice storms. Arctic blasts with ice storms are dreaded. Snow is a hundred percent better than sleet and ice.

The Last Sunset. Honorable Mention in Through the Lens Challenge.
It's a little blurry and not the best composition. The sky it captured was not the most spectacular. But this snapshot has become one of my most favorite. When I look at it, I go back to an autumn evening a quarter of a century ago.

Life with Athena...
In my life, I've had two significant companions: 1) girlfriends and 2) cats. I'm still trying to determine which of the two is more stubborn. But that's a different tale altogether. Let me introduce you to my favorite feline, “Athena Missy Harty.”

Sublime Play
I work at a small independent academy for neurodivergent students in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It's a special place, flawed as it is wondrous, most human and beautiful. I do a handful of things in the space: I teach ELA to a small group of fifth and sixth graders, I train teachers in our classroom management style, Love and Logic, and I model behavioral intervention techniques in the classroom. This year, I'll get my registered behavior technician certification to quantify my natural conflict resolution and de-escalation skillset. It's a place that supports me and helps me grow. I am thankful for it and the lessons it has brought.

Translation Services for Employee Handbook . AI-Generated.
In today’s globalized workforce, businesses often employ individuals from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. As a result, translating employee handbooks has become a vital task for organizations aiming to foster inclusion, ensure compliance, and maintain clear communication. An employee handbook serves as a cornerstone document, outlining company policies, expectations, and benefits. Translating this critical resource ensures all employees have access to the same information, regardless of their primary language.

Resurgence
When the Covid pandemic evolved into high speed in March of 2020, I was taken somewhat by surprise. I was working full-time at an elementary school when, on the afternoon of Friday, March 13th following school, a meeting was called and we were told we should pack anything we needed to take home with us that day (plants, books, laptops, and personal items including food, etc.). The school's doors were being closed until further notice and though employees would be expected to work from home if needed and were essentially on call, they would remain home until further notice. It was speculated by many, at the time, such would end in mere weeks and we would then resume full operation. Regardless, employees not being in the building for a few weeks would give the maintenance staff time to clean and sanitize each building. Little did we know as we packed our things nothing could have been further from the truth for the worst had not begun.

ISHIRINI. Honorable Mention in Through the Lens Challenge.
She was found dying slowly, pregnant. Ishirini's pain and heartbreak are mine. After discovering Edgar Rice Burroughs in grade school, I was captivated by the character he created, Tarzan of the Apes®. I aimed to beat my friend in our class reading contest, and did it by reading one book a night in that series. Afterward, I became obsessed with Africa. I wanted to see lions, elephants, and rhinos and dreamed of going there one day.

in the alley are the things hidden. Content Warning.
Quick Note: the photo has been edited. Nothing major except changing it from color to black and white. Over a year ago, during a rather unseasonably warm winter's day, I went to play tourist with a friend in a nearby beach front town. There, I passed this alley, something I had done a hundred times before. Before this day, I merely glimpsed down it, and not once can I recall seeing anything that made me do a double take. If I did, I never took a picture of it.
