Confessions of A Very Amateur Photographer
Why I Take Pictures

Introduction
I was posting on the Vocal Social Society Community Adventure Thread
and I was shocked that I knew nobody, barring myself, who had posted in that community. Not one member of my Creationati or any of my other friends has posted in Photography.
This may be because of the rise of our mobile devices taking pictures has just become such a part of everyday life that we feel we will just be preaching to the converted.
So I thought maybe I will just share a piece on how my photography has developed over the years, the issues I face, and how I share things.
I am not an expert or professional by any stretch of the imagination but I hope this may pique your interest and maybe inspire you to write something about the pictures you take.
I didn't expect to be writing this today but then I thought someone that I knew would have shared a story about the pictures that they take.
The music is "Picture Book" by The Kinks from "The Village Green Preservation Society" which you can read about here.
MyPhotographic Journey
This will never end, as I take photographs every day although I forget when I last actually took delivery of a physical photograph.
I started off with film cameras and you never knew how the picture would turn out, although fim gave you a far better resolution than early digital options but did not have the convenience or instant ability to see whether the picture was any good or not,
You were limited by the number of shots the film could take, so if you went on holiday you could easily run out of film, then when you returned you had to send it off to be developed and hope that the pictures turned out OK.
The blurred and out-of-focus ones went in the bin, also experimentation was not an option.
This is me as a teenager

And me the other day

The thing is technology has developed so quickly that even with a phone you can actually use the delay to take selfies anywhere and also include places that you want to share with your friends on social media.

This is a picture converted from film to digital featuring Fiona on Chichen Itza in Mexico. I think that soon after they stopped people from going up there. That was over twenty years ago.

I love taking pictures and share them on Instagram and Facebook. Most of them are taken on my phone but I do have a camera with 16x optical zoom, which is sometimes useful as the camera has not got an optical zoom, only digital, but that is often good enough for most of my photography.
One thing that always gets me, is that your eye can see so much but when you take a picture with your phone or camera it cannot capture everything that your eye can see.
Often people compliment me on the pictures that I take, but for every one that I share there are a lot more that are binned or don't make the cut. One of the problems is that my camera pictures are too big to include on Vocal but I do share them on Facebook. This is one from Whitby that was taken by my camera and then reduced to upload.

Probably my biggest subject is the cats that I meet on my walks and share on Instagram and Facebook. This one was sunbathing on my garden table yesterday.

Here is one of my stories about the cats I meet and photograph on my walks with lots of pictures for you.
If you want to check out my Instagram Cats some are here.
Conclusion
This is my second post in Photography and hope that you have enjoyed it and maybe found something useful here.

Another good article. Loved the pictures, though I didn't find any links to the stories referenced.
Love all of the photos. I've always wanted to visit England, and see the Chichen itza. So cool how you visited all these places.
To me photography is about nostalgia you feel when browsing through the pictures taken months-years ago: places, people, incidents of all sorts. But the process of taking pictures is gratifying as well. One learns how to see things, to notice small details. Nice article!
I love that a cat fallow you home . Thanks for sharing the gorgeous pictures 🥰
