It's easy to get caught up in the big picture of training, but remember to congratulate your dog on even the tiniest progress.

1. Use tactics for positive reinforcement.

Positive reinforcement training is the most effective way of dog training, according to almost all veterinarians. Positive reinforcement training, on the other hand, focuses on rewarding good behavior rather than penalizing bad behavior in your pet.

Reward your dog whenever he or she behaves well and reacts positively to your orders. You're reinforcing the link between good behavior and good goods by rewarding excellent behavior.

It's also crucial to avoid unintentionally promoting undesirable behavior. If your dog barks at you to play or leaps up to greet you, don't recognize it or give in because this will only reward the unwanted behavior. Instead, wait until they've calmed down before paying attention to them.

2. Find the right reward.

Some dogs are food-motivated, and will excitedly respond to any edible treat as a reward. Others are more particular: soft, chewy snacks are frequently favoured over hard, crunchy treats.

Some dogs, on the other hand, are simply uninterested in eating. If this is the case with your dog, try experimenting with other rewards, such as a quick play session with a favorite toy or simply plenty of love.

3. Train little and often.

Short training sessions that are repeated throughout the day are far more effective than lengthier training sessions. Keep sessions to five minutes or less, according to the American Kennel Club; any longer and your dog may grow distracted or frustrated.

Dogs also have a hard time generalizing commands to different places or situations (for example, understanding that asking for a "sit" at home is the same as asking for a "sit" on a busy street), so it's a good idea to repeat your training sessions in different locations, with different people, and with varying levels of distraction, so that your pup learns to respond correctly to the same command every time.

4. Build up in stages.

Starting small can be helpful, particularly when it comes to more complex actions like “ stay,” or with geste revision (when you ’re trying to get relieve of unwanted geste).

Try breaking actions down into lower corridor. For illustration, in the morning, if you ’re training “ come,” praise and award your canine when they take indeed one step towards you. It’s much easier to add on way and make up to the whole geste once your doggy starts to get the hang of it.

5. Make it fun.

Training should be delightful, both for you and your canine! Always keep it positive, and try mixing effects up to keep it intriguing, similar as incorporating short play sessions into your training in between reiterations.

You could also consider training your canine to do tricks in addition to regular obedience training. As humans, we naturally respond more madly to seeing a canine rolling over than we will to a plain old sit — our tykes pick up on that enthusiasm and end up loving to perform tricks for us!

6. Use Your Hands.

According to researchers, dogs are capable of understanding human language but how well depends highly on the individual dog and their personal level of interest in humans. It is worth noting that dogs often respond better to hand gestures than verbal commands so try combining both and see how they react and you might find better results with at least the initial training period.

7. Consistency is key.

It's really important to be consistent in how you train your dog. It also helps to use the same word and way of talking each time. For example, always saying "sit pup" with a high pitched voice rather than a low pitched one.

Dogs need to be kept in a routine, so make sure everyone in the household is doing the same thing. If one person lets them on the couch and another doesn’t, it can make training more difficult!
