To the Summit
We drove up the snowy, winding road towards the cozy A-frame cabin. We always like driving with the windows down, and the heat blazing in the car. It gave us the best of both worlds, the crisp fresh air rushing in our lungs, and the soothing warmth of the heat to save us from certain hypothermia. The mountains were a nice change in scenery in comparison to the bustling concrete jungle we were familiar with in NY. A few times along the way, we pulled to the side of the road, got out of the car, and just soaked in the taste of freedom. The sweet aroma of the pine trees comingled with the fresh mountain air and provided us with a brief moment of serenity. When we would close our eyes and we could simply “be” in the present moment.

Pumpkin Swirls
[Author’s Note] This story is for a non-fiction challenge. While some may consider this story to be fiction, I dispute those claims by stating that I have recalled this story by memory and chosen to elaborate some details that otherwise would have been incomplete and/or vague. Take it for what it is but remember this, the truth should never get in the way of a good story.

Why should you do a genetic test on your dog?
Genetic tests in humans are already a common reality to find out about preventable genetic diseases or even to find out the ethnic origin of our ancestors. For example, it is already common to analyze the presence of certain mutations in genes to understand the probability of a person to suffer from certain types of cancer. How could it be otherwise, these types of tests are beginning to be available for our fellow dogs and thus be able to give them better health.

At the Ocean
As difficult as it is to pick from the many wonderful times with my dog, Sugar, one time stands out. We headed down to Galveston Friday around noon from Dallas for the 4th of July holiday. We took our time and stopped at too many Buc-ees along the way. It was overcast that day—a nice break from the hot Texas summer—so we took our time.

Spaniel's Weather
We went camping once in the cold of January at Devil's Den Park. Just my husband, myself, and our cocker spaniel, Sage. We had visited previously and were eager for a chance to return before my PTO expired. Camping with a dog can be a hefty endeavor, but it never is with Sage. She is one of the few perfect creatures in the world with a quiet demeanor and obedient heart.

A girl and her pup
Penny Farthing and I have been together just over two years now. We have shared many a wonderful experiences, but the one for discussion is a memory from our drive down to Valdez from Delta Junction. The skies were clear so we could see every mountain top. The temperature was warm enough that I could wear my amazing blue gnome like poncho with only a tank top underneath.
