Spaniel's Weather
We went camping once in the cold of January at Devil's Den Park. Just my husband, myself, and our cocker spaniel, Sage. We had visited previously and were eager for a chance to return before my PTO expired. Camping with a dog can be a hefty endeavor, but it never is with Sage. She is one of the few perfect creatures in the world with a quiet demeanor and obedient heart.

The Dog that Saved my Life
The day my dog, Denali, saved my life is definitely my fondest memory of her. She is my unofficial service animal and I highly recommend you get one of your own. You never know when their unconditional love, dedication, and steadfast companionship will come in handy. Dogs are known for saving the lives of humans for many years running. They can even be trained to do so in a number of ways. The course of action she took to rescue me would probably be considered a non-traditional method, with no training required.

Meeting Denali
I remember the first time I met my best friend in life and I will cherish that memory forever. I walked into her previous owner’s home and she barked at me timidly, then circled around my person, growling. Her owner, Matthew, said, “Denali, it’s o.k. girl!” Obediently, with her tail between her legs, she walked to the corner of the room and laid down, watching my every move. The humans talked for a while as she laid there in her safe place, watching me, sizing up my intentions within this house.

The Hidden Inner World
I've always tried to imagine what animals think and feel when I'm with them. What common ground of experience do we have? Could we even comprehend their emotional existence? I think we can, especially dogs. Our last dog was a rescued Great Dane called Jess. A beautiful and gentle giant. It sounds funny to say, but she was a very respectful dog. She was incredibly gentle with children and older people, polite and reserved with visitors but unleashed her most outlandish behavior around us. Perhaps her best trait was that if you wanted a duvet day, she'd spend all day on the sofa watching TV with you. Truly dogs can be introverts too. Sometimes, I'd watch a nature documentary or rugby over something I wanted because those were her favorite things to watch. As adorable as it sounds, in reality, I think those excited her prey instinct, especially when tackles were made. But then again, do deeper primordial themes not underpin all that we find entertaining as well?

Different people like different animals for different reasons. Some people like animals because they are soft and cuddly. Others like animals because they are fierce and majestic. Some people even like animals because they are slimy and gross! No matter what your reason is for liking animals, there is definitely an animal out there for everyone.Animals are such an important part of our lives, and there are so many reasons why we love them.

Zeida
We walked into the shelter looking for a chihuahua-terrier mix named Tinkerbell. My mom had fallen in love with her over PetFinder in an instant. Tinkerbell met every prerequisite that my mom had laid out for their next dog. She was small (more specifically, she was lap-sized), she was already an adult (so my parents got to bypass the puppy stage), and the shelter had listed her as friendly and affectionate (the perfect combination of traits for a mother currently empty nesting).

Woman's Best Friend
I’ve never felt more loved by anyone than I am by my dogs. We got my current puppy, Rocky (as in Balboa, from my mom’s favorite movies growing up), shortly after we had to put down our last dog in February. He is often very stubborn. Sometimes, he refuses to listen to commands, or doesn’t come when he’s called. However, he is still very attached to us and gets very excited whenever my family and I return from work or school. He loves all of my family members and has a different way to greet all of us. For me, Rocky always runs circles around the room until I pick him up, and then he gives me lots of licks on my hands and cheeks. My brother always walks in to see the puppy rolled over on his back, wriggling around and begging for belly rubs. When my mom comes home from work, Rocky runs up and down the stairs and wags his tail, barking and whimpering excitedly to show her that he missed her very much.
