dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
Our Zip
Let me tell you about the goodest boy you'd ever meet. His name was Zip. Zip. The Myth. The Dog. The Legend. Zip was my family's first Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler), and the dog that would forever change our lives. My Dad saw the breed in a movie and fell in love, so my parents took a road trip to Tennessee and adopted him as a young pup. He was bred to be a show dog, but didn't have a 'winning' stance, so was returned to his birth home. I don't recall how my parents found his adoption listing, but I can tell you that regardless of his inadequacy to win trophies, he was definitely always a winner in our eyes.

The Best Empawyee Ever
Princess Ladybug Lindsey, otherwise known as Bug, kept me sane during the initial days of the pandemic when I was teaching from my bedroom office. I could talk to her just like a coworker, bounce ideas off her cute little furry head, pick her up when a prop was needed and use her as an ongoing excuse to go take a walk outside. It was wonderful. She agreed with all my ideas, never questioned my lesson plans, got more excited than my students did and worked her little nose to the grindstone all day long. She was the consummate paraprofessional as I “attempted” to teach struggling readers to read on Zoom. This task was no easy feat and believe me Bug got me through some of the most trying times with my kiddos. I’ve taught reading for 25 years and never have I ever struggled as much as I did last year. My experience teaching beginning readers from a computer made my decision to retire a great deal easier last spring.

Silly Pet Costumes
This year for Halloween, I will be dressing up my dog up as a pineapple in a fruit basket . Last year, I put her in a bandana and cowboy hat and said she was her namesake. My first dog, who passed away last year, had been a queen, a mermaid, a dinosaur, and Superman. She didn’t much like being dressed in costumes, but the pictures were cute, and got all those likes on Facebook and Instagram.

Why You Should Be Dressing Your Dogs Up For Halloween
While there are ton of adults my age who are out there buying costumes for their young babies, or letting their children pick out their own costumes, I have only had dogs. Don't get me wrong. This isn't a complaint. I love it. Dogs are loyal and the best companions to have when it's just you. But sometimes you just want to have something to dress up for Halloween as well..

The Nose Knows
Which of the five senses is the most important to you? Is it your sense of taste, smell, touch, sight, or hearing? If you are like most people, you probably answered either sight or hearing. If you asked your dog, however, his choice would be the sense of smell.

Costumed Chester
My Miniature Schnauzer, Chester, who sadly had to be put to sleep two years ago and cross the Rainbow Bridge at age thirteen, after suffering three sudden seizures. He was named after the amazing Linkin Park rockstar Chester Bennington (who past away four years ago. May he rest in peace).

The Cutest Hot Dog Ever
I've had Mercury for two years now so we haven't had many Halloweens together where we actually got all dressed up. I mean.. in 2020, we basically just curled up on the couch together and turned into each other's "horror movie buddies"; it's something I definitely recommend for those who don't have anyone else besides their best pup friend this Halloween season.
