dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
Golden Moments
It was a thick winter day. A thin layer of perfectly level freshly laid snow was engraved by minute rabbit paw prints. Naked trees danced in the fierce wind, shedding any white skin from their branches. I was walking violently, my worn-out boots chiselling blisters on my feet. My mother, dressed in blue from her hat to her eyes to her snowshoes, gracefully trotted over the snow, leaving only a faint mark on the fluffy white flakes.

Rescued
I stood there in the ER, shaking and sobbing. Flashes of Teddy, my two year old tuxedo cat, seizing in my arms after several weeks of medical battles came over me. I blamed myself. The amount of guilt that I felt was heavy enough to bring even the moon to its knees. To lose someone is one thing, to watch them go is another.

Duchess
I was an escape artist, according to my mother. I ran off and was sneaky about it. But really, I only ever made it out the backdoor into our tiny, fenced yard. (Well, except that one time, but I'm getting ahead of myself). At the ripe old age of 2, that yard was a wonderland that I explored with my best friends. A German Shepherd and a Newfoundland. The Newfie was soft and fun to chase but knocked me over often. She wasn't my favorite friend. The shepherd was patient and gentle. My young heart adored her. Her name was Duchess.

Dancing the Dog
My dog and I love to walk along the quiet streets of our subdivision; he sniffs the shoulders of the paved road inhaling every molecule of information from every other dog, pedestrian, and car that has passed by. He usually finds a “sweet spot” and rolls, joyfully kicking his legs in the air and grunting…an activity I have affectionately named “piggling”. I usually walk along quietly, enjoying the blue skies, bird songs from the nearby trees, and wait for him to do his “doggy things” as I keep an eye out for oncoming traffic or other dogs. My dog was a “rescue” from a fighting-dog “puppy mill”, and he is very antisocial when encountering anything out of the ordinary on our solitary times together.

Love Trumps Fear
You are Dillinger. You are not mine, you belong to my best friend. You are sweet, and goofy, and loyal, and wicked smart, one of the best dog's I've ever known. I remember when she first got you, you were so small. You were only four weeks old, but the shelter was going to euthanize you because you lived in a "no pitbulls allowed" kind of state. My friend did not hesitate to swoop in and save you.

Bringing Home a New Puppy
Bringing home a new puppy is an exciting and joyful moment. Your puppy will require a lot of love and attention as they transition into their new home. Before your puppy arrives, there are some arrangements and decisions to be made. After you’ve picked out your puppy and are awaiting the big day, you’ll need to puppy-proof your home. You’ll also need to find the right supplies, decide on house rules, think about how you’ll make introductions, and schedule important vet visits.
