dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
Buddy Whigham
He was my sweet dog, but only for a minute it seemed. See, I already had a dog, and the relationship that I established with her was one riddled with stubborn compromise. A self-proclaimed horse person, I was never one to succomb to the heart-wrenching stares from kitties and pupperoos longing to find their human counterparts. As much as I loved them all, pet ownership seemed too daunting a task for someone with such a busy life. Still I fell for a beautiful Doberman who was rejected not once, not twice, but thrice for a slight jaw deformity which was frowned upon according to breed standards. What she lacked in physical perfection, she more than made up for in personality! Her loving demeanor was enough to make me cave in and allow her to warm the barren sofa cushions of our living room. What followed were months of locking horns over everything from how long throwing the ball should last to who gets to wrap their body in my favorite furry blanket. Just a hint, it was never me. Our entire family effortlessly grew to love her and vowed to never upstage her by adopting another pet.

Our First Beach Trip
It sounds cliche, but my dog and I saved each other. When I adopted her my anxiety was crippling and I could hardly leave my house. Frosty, my four-year-old English pointer, was only 45 pounds and she was all skin and bones. The first time I saw her my heart shattered. It was a cold November day in New England, and when she got out of the car, I noticed all of her bones were showing and she was shaking because she was so cold. She also had a horrible limp and raw skin on her belly and her elbow. I took her to the emergency vet where they told me that Frosty should be around 70-75 pounds. They said her limp was from a previous injury and the bad skin and the limp would never heal.

Sunset With My Springer
Over our 14 years together, Cesar and I have had some wonderful adventures. From the (now) hilarious - being chased by a herd of cows - to the somewhat terrifying - pulling him Titanic-style out of an icy lake - it’s fair to say that we’e crammed our lives full of memories.

Broken
Finding love as a gay man in the South is no easy task. Like everyone, I’ve been on countless apps and endless blind dates. For the umpteenth time, I thought I had found “the one” when I met Scott. Our initial meeting was quite unconditional. The night we met on a risqué dating app, I invited him to come to a Halloween party with plenty of party goers. I wanted to be safe These days, people can’t be too careful because there are many “crazies” as I like to call them.

Pebbles
Let me start by saying how amazing and loving my baby girl is. She has brought me so much joy and happiness in my life. My baby is a two-year-old blonde Chihuahua named Pebbles. She was brought into my life in January of 2020 as a late Christmas gift from my oldest son. I couldn’t have her sooner than that because she was probably still too small and was still nursing. When my son had told me a little after Christmas that what he really wanted to get me was a puppy but couldn’t find one; I immediately went online and began my search. Only ten minutes later, I found her. The cutest and smallest little face on an ad on Craigslist. I quickly messaged my son at work and let him know I found a Chihuahua. When he told me to call, I did just that and made sure they knew I wanted her, and I wanted her at that very moment. The next day I went to get my baby and oh my goodness when I saw the guy carrying her out of the car I almost ran up to him and just snagged her right out of his hands. I was in love.
