Tips While You Travel and Your Cats Stay Home Alone
Cats are cute, fluffy predators that chose to be domesticated by humans. If you are a cat owner then I am sure you have the thought that there is a miniature lion roaming your house that basically owns you although they let you claim the owner title. They are playful, clean, and loving pets; although the loving part is on their terms, it makes it all the more special. To be fair, dogs are great pets, but there is a lot more that goes into traveling since they need to be walked and can be a bit destructive when bored. What I love about having two indoor cats as pets is their independence, so when I travel, I don’t have to hire a petsitter, saving me money to spend during my travels. I do admit, I am a worrywart, so through trial and error of products, I have figured out how to travel without worry and knowing my cats are safe.

My Roommate’s Kitty
My roommate has a Siamese cat named "Kitty." My roommate has a very vivid imagination when comes to naming his pets. Kitty used to sleep in the living room next to the big chair... that's in the living room. Now she sleeps on the foot of my bed every night. Kitty is a good kitty—except for when she's a bad kitty and tries to eat my phone's charging cable.

Fur Baby
I never thought that I could feel so much love for something that wasn't human. My whole life I've wanted children, But I am waiting for the right time. When me and my boyfriend moved in together, we made the decision to get a kitten. I was nervous about it at first because I know its a big responsibility and we already had three bunnies at the time as well. I've always loved cats and he warmed up to wanting a kitten. We had a couple leads on kittens but they fell through. Finally a friend of mine informed me that her cousin had kittens that were part bobcat. She sent me pics and asked if I would be interested in one, but said they couldn't leave the mom for about six weeks. I instantly fell in love with one of them. I knew I wanted a female cat, because that was what I grew up with. My friend was unsure if the one in the picture I said I wanted was a girl so I would have to find out when I went to get one. I was worried that these kittens too would fall through but I stayed hopeful. Finally I got the call, we could get one of the kittens. My boyfriend, my friend, and I went to her cousin's place about 30 mins away to get my kitten. When I told the cousin I wanted a female my face lit up when she showed me the open in the picture first. I told her I didn't need to see any others, this was the one.

The Story of Meatball
Eight years ago in a local pet store was a litter of abandon kittens. My grandma had chosen this cute calico that she wanted for Mother's Day. I noticed everyone looking at the other kittens and ignoring this little, rambunctious ginger who was chubby and attacking his litter mates. Since the kittens were so tiny, they had to bottle feed them and we had to wait to pick them up for a couple of weeks. I lived with my grandpa at the time who I told about this cat he seemed uninterested. I went back every day to check on the little orange cat and still no one was interested in this ginger boy. The big day came to pick up the calico my grandma wanted; I should tell you my grandma had her own apartment, so I asked my mom to call and ask my grandpa if I could get this cute kitten not telling him the color. He really didn't want me to have it saying well she has to take care of it. So I told the lady I was taking the baby ginger and she gave him to me for free because he was unwanted. I took him home and my grandpa wanted to see him so I pulled him out of the little box. My grandpa's face lit up like it was Christmas. "You didn't tell me he was a yellow cat! I love yellow cats." That was that, Meatball had actually bonded with my grandpa but I didn't mind; he had a home and since I lived there I took care of him. He would get in the dryer so we would have to watch every time we switched the laundry. My grandpa was paralyzed, so we had a manual lift that Meatball would ride it till it went under the bed. Meatball was quite the character. From the good times to when he was a terror knocking things off my table stand because he wanted attention; he has mellowed though. Now a year ago, my grandpa passed and I inherited him back. Now we bond everyday and I can't imagine my life without Meatball, he truly brings happiness to all he knows. It's been a year since it has been just me and Meatball. He cuddles with me when I'm sad and when I am having an off day, he lets me pet him. I love taking pictures of the old man. Then my aunt Mary Ann told me about this group on Facebook where I can show his pictures. I was a little scared because he is a big cat, back then 28 pounds, although when I inherited him I think he was 30. So I snapped a photo of him and people instantly commented on his picture of how handsome he was. That one picture changed his life. He has his own Instagram with 14 followers @meatballalexander and on Facebook his page has over 800 followers. If you're interested, just search Meatball Alexander the cat. I am also going to write a children’s book about his adventures. It may seem odd, but as his life changes so does mine. I’m glad people like him and that I can share him with people who appreciate the lives of animals. I would be lying if I told you that I did not enjoy taking pictures of Meatball to share with everyone, but I do. Meatball helps bring joy into my life even if he is just laying in his bed doing absolutely nothing. Occasionally he plays with a feather toy, or chase the other cats; other than that, he is my perfect cat.

Cat Café? What Is That?
Do you love coffee? Do you love cats? What about drinking your coffee while petting a cat? If that sounds interesting, then a cat café may be for you. Cat cafés are exactly what they sound like, a place to get a cup of coffee, possibly a muffin, and spend time with cats. Places such as the Purrvana Café & Cat Lounge in Savannah, Georgia or Java Cats Café in Atlanta have been becoming very popular in the past five to ten years. In 2015, there were at least 24 known kitty cafes across the United States. Since then, more have opened and are thriving. Many of these locations host cats from local rescues to give them more face time with the public.
