It's been said that people that hate cats will come back as mice in their next life.
What my Cats Have Taught Me
I've always been a cat person. I've loved and had to say goodbye to many a good one. After all, I am in my sixties now. Each one, though, has gifted me with something magical. These are my babies now. They will most likely be my lasts. They know they are special in their own little ways and so endearing. (See, I told you I was a cat person!)

Naming Cats
Naming a cat is serious business. When I was a kid growing up my mother refused to allow us kids to have a pet. “Animals belong out in the wilderness, not near humans and certainly not inside a human home” she said. She always strived to maintain a perfectly sterile, germ-free home and, to her, animals were covered with germs.

Grieving isn't linear
I woke up when I felt something jump off the bed. I sat up with a jolt thinking it was my cattle dog x, Bobbie, wanting to be let out as she has done every morning since staying at my partner’s parents' house for the last few weeks. But when I looked down, Bobbie was still asleep. So, what had jumped off my bed? The dream I had been having before I had been awoken was fading from my mind slowly, so I could recall what it was about.

Hello Ghost Kitties
Some people are very sensitive to the spirits (not alcohol, the paranormal ones), while others will chock it up as hocus pocus bunk. I fall somewhere in the middle. I know they exist around me, and although I have never seen a ghost or spirit, I have experienced their presence on several occasions. And because they were friendly spirits, I welcomed them openly. I’ll recount three of my favourite encounters. I’ll leave the others to another story.

Home Is Where the Hairball Is
When I moved in with my friend Molly, her husband, four kids, three dogs and three cats, I had no idea how everything would work out for me. I wasn’t that big on kids, but I’d always loved cats in spite of, or perhaps because of the fact that my mother hated them.

Two Golden Nuggets. Third Place in Pets Welcome Challenge. Top Story - June 2020.
If you had asked me two years ago, “Katie, would you ever have a cat?” I probably would have laughed. Now, I have two. Two beautiful golden nuggets of joy that I simply cannot get enough of. Every morning I wake up to their purrrrs and every night I fall asleep to their cuddles. I’m sure everyone says this about their own pets, but I believe I have the most amazing cats in the world. I am officially a crazy cat lady at the age of 30.
