A Lolly to Love
”No, we’re not rescuing a third dog! Baxter hasn’t been gone very long and you don’t chip in with the boring parts,” I told my daughter. I was firm and meant what I had said. So how, I wondered, had we found ourselves at the Animal Shelter looking at longing faces yet again?

A Cat Called Psychology
My dad was the first to give in. I wouldn't call him a softy, but he certainly knew that the whole family wanted a cat. Thing was, the little black cat who'd been turning up in our yard wasn't - how to put it - strictly legal. By two standards, he wasn't supposed to be there: by our landlord's and by our mother's. We weren't supposed to have pets, and my mother was very, very allergic.

A Dog Named Sherlock
For the past six years, my work has been all about animals. I write for an animal news website, and for a little while, I also worked with animals directly at a local dog rescue. I love writing and telling stories about dogs, cats, frogs, bees, monkeys, and the like. Working directly with dogs who needed homes hit a little bit differently though.

I Love My Job
I love my job, because I change a life every day. Sometimes several lives, but always one life, mine. My job is crazy busy. I always wake to a dozen text messages, and voice mails. Then I make the mistake of turning on the computer where there are a couple of dozen emails. That is when I remind myself that I’m retired and this is my fun, fill my days, job. Turn off the phone, shut down the computer and head for either the stable and/or the kennel. Then bury my face into the first fur baby I come to. Breath in deeply, drawing in all their kindness and unconditional love and remember I love my job.

A hidden talent in a big city
It all began one Sunday morning. My mom yelling my name from downstairs saying ‘Chacha come downstairs - Now! I thought- what the heck did I do now? I was the favorite to pick, always the one to blame for anything. I’m coming down soon, I replied. I was not in the mood for humiliation again,

It's A Dog's Life!
It was a hot, humid, drizzly day in Indiana, earlier this July. One of my friends I had attended school with for what seems like forever - who ended up being the lead guitarist and vocalist for a successful, up-and-coming South Suburban Chicagoland band called OUTDrejas [outdrejas.com]. - was getting married! My older sibling was invited. That meant I had to mind the pets of the household.

Passion Peace
It took me some time to ponder on if I would post for this challenge. My peace is not artsy and does not involve meditation. Although there are a few ways for a person to thread their own needle. I felt that some people would see my way more as work than peaceful, but I am going to share any way. Growing up there were always animals freely walking around in my area. I did not know as a kid that they were homeless, just free. I would always feed them anything we had in the house, food, or milk. We had a total of about seven cats that lived in our back yard, and I gave them each a name. Everyday I would feed and take care of them it was a routine for me after school, then after work.

You are considered a woman at 15 years old in Spanish families. It's a very festive event in a 15 -year- old girl's life. Family saved up for this. I was looking forward to the Quinceanera Waltz (El Bals). I got my beautiful white dress last year. Its cost my parents $200.00 in a sale. My guest list was already made. The theme was going to be Cinderella. I had the venue to be in the New York Grand Hotel. We were going to have pictures taken at Central Park. I had my dance partner pick out among male friends, for the El Bals. All Sixteen of us was supposed to start practiced that week before my birthday for the waltz.
