One Furry Day
When the human is away, the dog shall play
Stirring from his resting spot at the foot of the bed with his humans, Fender slowly starts to wake. One of his humans, Julie, has already risen and is readying herself for the long ride they will take as a family every morning. Fender stretches his body, his slender build across the width of his bed. His other human, Never, lies deeply asleep, lying right beside Fender. Fender jumps out of the bed, "Good morning lady human," he says as he walks up to her, rubbing his body against her leg and licking her hand. "It's time to go outside lady," he claims excitedly, wagging his whole body, ready to start the day, ready for some adventure. "Come Fender, let's go potty," Julie says, as she leads him to the door, collecting his leash. Hurriedly, Fender rushes out the door. The smells are such a sensation, they drive him crazy and sometimes... he ends up in places he shouldn't be, where he gets scolded and in trouble by a lot of humans at once. But he just can't help himself, his mind and nose just erupt in a frenzy, and everything he smells is just amazing, leading him to the next thing and the next thing and then, well... you know what happens next. Fender, not quite one-year-old in human years, acts more like a teenager while running off and checking everything out. Today was a little bit different though, Fender could sense, moving through the yard, nose glued to the ground. Eventually, Fender looked up and noticed he wasn't at his home no more. He was now farther down the street at another human's home. Around the corner comes, a little black dog, no bigger than a ball, and starts barking. "Oh wow, another dog, I wanna play, you wanna play?" Fender exclaims excitedly walking up to the small dog. "No I don't wanna play, you get away from this house now, git! git!" the small dog barked. Shortly, the small dogs human appeared to check on her darling pup and began to scream, and scream and scream. She screamed at the top of her lungs for a short moment, when Fenders' human appeared. Fender walked over to her, head tucked down, tail tucked, he knew he had done something wrong. His human took Fender by his harness and led him back to their home and led him upstairs. She was stern in her voice when she spoke to him, only to tell him what he just did was bad. Fender couldn't understand why he was in trouble for just wanting to play and besides that, he couldn't help himself, with following all those amazing smells from one amazing thing to the next amazing thing that he would have the opportunity to inspect. Julie led Fender inside the house, and Julie and Never walked right back out the door, leaving Fender alone at the house. "What? What's happening? Where'd you go humans? I'm supposed to go with you human, you take me every day we ride in the car." Fender stood at the closed door, trying to make sense of everything that seemed to be happening so quickly. Eventually, Fender sat down, waiting, expecting his humans to come back and get him for their daily drive. Every day, Fender and his humans would ride in their little car, humans in the front and Fender in the back, driving through the countryside, passing the trees and the homes and the smells! Oh! The smells, Fender thought to himself, slightly smiling as he recalled how happy it made him to be with his humans all the time. Then he realized, after sitting and laying in the same spot for quite some time, that his humans were not coming back. Fender is upset, he doesn't like being by himself. He has been with his humans almost his entire life. Once they come to take him away from his brother and sisters, his humans took him everywhere. In the beginning, they used to take him in stores. But the smells and the people were too much for Fender, and he would jump at everyone, only wanting to play, to smell them and lick them. Then gradually, they just stopped taking him inside the stores and leaving him in the car. When they started leaving Fender in the car while they went in the store, he would bark and bark and bark. "I wanna go! Don't leave me! I wanna play too! Please let me go I need to smell them!!" Fender would bark and bark and bark, sometimes until his humans quickly returned. As the day passed by, Fender grew restless. So he began walking through the 2 bedroom apartment, walking from room to room to room and back again. He saw something out the corner of his eye. Fender stopped abruptly and turned around. Nothing. Then, he noticed it again. This time there was somebody there. "My humans will be home any minute and when they do, you'll be sorry" he growled. "And they leave me in charge of the house when they leave so you're already gonna be sorry!" as he lunged for the intruder, and began to shred them apart. Little pieces were floating all around him and falling on the floor as he pinned the intruder down on the floor and began to rip them apart, piece by tiny piece. "Bleh," he spits "gross, and it keeps getting stuck to my tongue and roof of my mouth" as he spits the intruder back onto the ground. Then he realized who exactly his intruder was. The trash can!! "Oh no, oh no oh no" he panted. Footsteps! "My humans are home" he wined. "Fender! We're home" they yelle as they walked in through the front door. As they approached, they saw the mess, and poor Fender, with his head bent down thought "maybe they won't even notice" "Ohhh Fender, what's going on here?" his owner exclaimed as they assessed the wreckage. Fender took his paw, and covered his face claiming "What? It wasn't me" His humans came to Fender and began to pet him, greeting him and loving him, and both agreeing that they would not leave Fender home alone if they didn't have to.
