Off to the races
The gutter spat out sludge. Rain crashed down on the tin roofs. In the dark beneath the unlit window ledges a dark figure clung to the shadows. He hunched over his hands which grasped a fine leather bound book. His beady eyes followed a long finger as he slid it down the crisp white paper.it was the nicest book he had ever seen. He could probably sell the book for a pretty penny. The thought had crossed his mind, yet he knew its real worth lay in what was written on the pages. His pupils widened as his finger came to a stop. He had never learned to read properly but he knew the words written before him.

Interesting Cat Facts!
Things you might not know about cats... Did you know...that cats wink at you when they want to tell you they love you? I have two cats, Raider is the gorgeous boy in the photo, before he was Raider, his name was Juan, I immediately changed it upon adopting him from a local shelter (East County Animal Rescue, yes I am plugging them) He lived in a Petco for about 2 months before he got my attention by reaching out and grabbing my shirt every morning when I walked by him to clock in at work. Then I have Criminal...he started out as Diego, but then he decided that acting like a criminal was a good idea, doing things like dumpster diving, dragging the bread off the counter, and jumping up on places he knows he isn't allowed...so essentially he was being a cat. He remained "Diego" for about a month before my husband started saying "your just a little criminal" so we started calling him Criminal and it stuck. Criminal and Raider wink at me all the time...and if you wink back, that tells them you love them too.

The Bees, The Horse, and The Hedgehog
The hedgehog was finally clean. Tilde put it in her breast pocket and it peeped its eyes to survey the acreage. Tilde took her last sip of tea before starting her morning rounds. “Good morning Stryder,” said Tilde as she mounted the Clydesdale. Stryder whinnied in response before setting off. The faint buzzing, always present on the property, grew louder as she approached her first hive. The hedgehog dove deeper into her pocket at the sound of the bees. Bees!

Platypus
Have you ever looked at a platypus and wondered if God was drinking the day that He created this creature? The history of the platypus dates back to prehistoric times when ancestors of this odd creature were known to exist. Both the Teinolophos and the Steropodon were believed to be akin to today’s modern platypus. The oldest known fossil ever found, was determined to be over 100,000 years old.

A "Tail" of 18 cats
Consider me an animal lover. I have five horses, over 100 head of cattle, five dogs, and now over twenty cats. This is possible because I live on a 2000 acre ranch in Eastern New Mexico, have a large hay barn and two shops. The cattle and horses are pasture feeding through the winter and my dogs stay in a large yard.

I am a Red Fox
This is an excerpt from a collection of essays by a good friend of mine who is a red fox. Imagine that you come home from work to find a letter stuck to your door with a knife - This is my house now. The Vixen’s scent outside my den meant as much. Some of you might not think it so bad to be followed by a female of your own species, but you should probably read the first line again. The Vixen stood a head taller than me and liked fighting a lot more than I did. Every change of season she got tired of my old territory and came to take my new one.

My Lovely Pets
Bandit My first rescue was Bandit. At the time that I got him he was a seven year old chihuahua. I seen him on facebook for free he had 24 hours to be picked up or he had to go to the shelter. I knew being seven years old he probably wouldn't find a home very well. His owner had died, she had him his whole life he was a sad little boy anyway he needed someone to love him. So he was my first forever rescue. He is the sweetest little guy ever he was very loved and you could tell it. I have had him five years now. At first I didn't think he would become my forever cause he had never seen children before. His owner who passed was in her 80s.

Meet My New Furry
I feel fortunate for loving animals and need to admit to you it hasn’t always been the case. I never hated them or stayed careless whenever I was witnessing some cruel behavior toward them. But, I can’t say I had a particular connection with those beautiful living creatures!
