Have Dog, Will Travel
It can be hard to travel when you have pets, especially if you need to fly to wherever it is you're going. Rental cars don't like having pets in their vehicles because they leave behind dirt and hair, putting extra miles on your own car is hardly ever ideal, if you do fly there's always the worry about having to have Fido or Fluffy in the cargo hold, and even the best-rated boarding facilities can't always erase the lingering guilt over leaving a member of the family behind. But travelling with some pets-- dogs in particular-- can be very rewarding for both you and your dog.

Bonding of the Bear and the Bull. Top Story - March 2021.
I knew I wanted to adopt a dog, but I did not think I would be adopting from, of all places, Overstock.com. In 2014 they partnered with local adoption agencies where I found this adorable picture at my local animal shelter.

Coco—The Prescription Puppy
Through tear-filled eyes, I pleaded with the pediatrician: “Doctor, what can I do to help my little boy? Every single time L.J. sees a dog, he instantly becomes SO terrified, the blood rushes out of his face, he bursts into screaming tears, and he scrambles up me; desperately clinging to my neck.”

From Heartbreak to New Beginnings
It was the end of March 2020. We were just beginning to grasp the extent of the pandemic that was causing havoc across the globe and our little world was about to implode in a different way. We had come to realise that it was time to accept the inevitable: we had to let our almost 18-year-old, much-loved tortoiseshell cat, Tabitha, go to pussycat heaven. It was heartbreaking. I didn’t know how I was going to manage without her.

Holly's Haven
"No. We don't need another dog." With that confirmation, my heart sank all the way to the basement beneath me as my Dad's voice rang true and final. I returned the phone to my Mom before I shuffled off to my bedroom in the devastating defeat of a seven-year-old's well structured argument.

Mama cat chose to adopt me
I guess I would have been called the cat lady back in the day because I once owned 14 of them at one time. They were not in my house but lived outside. Over a period of time I would say I probably owned at least 24 cats. My story today took place when I was 14 years old so I have no original pictures. The cover photo, however, is an almost exact replica of my "Mama cat," If you have read any of my recent pet stories then part of this tale will be familiar.

A Foster Failure
Let’s face it, making friends is difficult and seems to get more difficult with age. Children deserve a lot of credit for truly streamlining the friendship process: walk onto the playground, find a kid, show them your red Power Rangers toy, and you’re in. As an adult, this gets complicated by factors that suddenly seem to matter. We’re tired and anxious- do we really have it in us to risk it all on a coworker that seems like they may be a fun addition to our weekend hike? There is a risk-to-payoff assessment that we make every time we decide to engage with a new friend and dogs are no different.

Love at First Meow
Cats are the perfect pet. They are soft and cuddly, friendly for the most part and have been comfort during emotional times. My sisters and I grew up with cats from a young age, and my parents even now, still have 2 cats that we have had since birth.

Charles, and the seagull. Hull, where the people who adopted Charles lived, has a population of feral Seagulls, these large birds have seldom seen the sea, most live near refuse tips, or near the docks. Once in a while, one makes its way inland to see what it can scrounge in the city.

Charlie and Beatrice
Some years ago, my friend Jennifer acquired a beagle called Beanz. Beanz had belonged to an American family who were returning home and could not take her with them. She was a large, ponderous, matronly, sneaky dog who lived solely for delectation of food. Having said that she was in fact quite a nice girl who happened to love her tuck a little too much.

Pugsly the Pure
The tale of Pugsly begins a little over six years ago. My daughter, Kilee, had recently moved to Arizona and begun to make friends. After a month or so Kilee had become best friends with a girl named Nikki. The two were together all of the time. One night while staying over Nikki said that she was trying to find a place to stay but it was hard because her dog (Arie) was pregnant. After talking with my roommate we decided that Nikki and Arie could stay with us for a while.

Cleo and Cricket
I was living in a place I didn’t want to be, but at the time I didn’t have a choice. I was 16, and deeply depressed. My at home life, well let’s just say it wasn’t good because that is a WHOLE other story. The short version is my mother, brother and I moved into her fiancée’s house with his mother in a very tiny house and they had a very feral cat living there called Wilhelmina. She hated everything, wouldn’t let us near her and pretty much wanted to stay in the wall, so well left her alone.
