Close Encounters of the Furry Kind
In 2014, my friend gave me the opportunity to live out a lifelong dream. She'd been telling me stories about the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo (also known as The Little Zoo That Could thanks to their mobilization and evacuation during Hurricane Katrina) for years. The zoo offered one-on-one wild animal encounters, including encounters with large cat cubs. The encounters offered depended on what new arrivals were coming to the zoo, and they stopped once the cubs got too big to safely interact with people, so spots were limited. On this particular day, she contacted me excitedly to let me know the zoo was offering encounters with their two new tiger cubs, which included a white tiger!

Elusive Treasure
I was always dreaming about hummingbirds. Fascinating creatures, they captured my mind. I was collecting pictures from magazines, read books and articles, marveled at mind boggling facts. Long before Google, learning about them was not an easy task.

Our Messed Up Pets
Not long after we adopted the poodle, Sugar, my younger daughter had a Labradoodle generously given to her by another family in 4-H. Honey had been the runt of the litter and had some hip and leg problems, but he was absolutely amazing. It was the second time that my daughter had happened upon a pet that was practically perfect for her. Sugar also became chummy with the new guy. They developed a 'Bert and Ernie' type friendship that lasted for over a decade.

The Mighty Lemur
The mighty lemur. A true beauty of nature. These amazing creatures are traditionally found in Madagascar, but with the wonder of a zoo, they can be found across all continents. Luckily for me, I have been able to see and interact with these amazing animals. They can jump, climb, swing, and play with their friends. Truly amazing and beautiful.

You've Got Gordon Mail!
I spent my entire life wanting a dog of my own, but it wasn't until my husband and I bought our first house two years ago that we were finally able to welcome one into our lives. From the moment I laid eyes on him, I knew Gordon was going to be a special dog. He has the sweetest personality and the most contagious happy attitude—it’s hard to be in a bad mood when he is around. He has a way of bringing smiles of joy to everyone he meets. Gordon has quite literally been an answer to my many, many years of prayers.

Immortalising Memories
It started by accident really. A friend's dog passed away, and I felt it was fitting to try and help them heal from the loss of their family member by drawing a portrait of their dog. Somehow, over the years it became a bit of a habit. It's not a skill that's going to make me a fortune, since I’m a very slow drawer and not the calibre of a professional, but it's one that I get a lot of joy out of by gifting others something meaningful that I’ve created just for them.

Max This is a picture of my roommate’s three-legged cat named Max. He is an extremely sweet kitty and loves to be petted and kissed on the head. He has been a comfort to me as I recently moved in with my roommate and struggled with my disability.

Crabby Gabby
This cute little lady lives outside on my deck. Crabby Gabby and I have an agreement. I do not spray harsh chemicals, knock down her web, or kill her and she does not come inside or get on my bike. She teaches me like the spider Charlotte from Charlotte’s Web to suspend my arachnophobia induced tendencies of violence. I let her sit in a beautiful spot spin her web and eat bugs. It is nice. She is a lot cuter and less menacing then say a wolf spider, brown recluse, or black widow.

What I Have Learned From The Dogs In My Life
Dogs work together well, and work to help people as well, and such willingness to help is an admirable, and useful thing in a community. If all help others, what a fine life could be lived by everyone living there.

Our New Neighbors
Our New Neighbors The first part of May, early one morning, as I take my dogs for their walk, I noticed many tiny dots walking around on the muddy banks of a pond I live next to; I thought it to be rather odd that black dots could walk around, so I moved in closer to the pond, and I noticed a couple of mallard ducks have not only moved in but had managed to have eleven ducklings.
