The Wilderness Spot
I once had a dog named Juneau. He was a husky malamute mix, he was opinionated, endlessly energetic, a great conversationalist and he was my best friend. Many, many days Juneau and I went out to wander, walking through the different neighborhoods we would live in the fifteen years we shared together. One of our favorite places to go was a place I called the wilderness spot.

My crazy-fluffy cats: Blu & Lun
Did you ever think that was possible a real true love between a dog lover like me and two fluffy balls like them? Well, that happened…So let me tell you our story: Claudia and I adopted two cats ( at first, I was skeptical because I never 'liked' cats) and we decided to name them Lun and Blu. They become, shortly, the light of our lives, even though they can be a bit mischievous at times. But this is what makes them special. I've always been a dog lover, since childhood. I still have 3 dogs at my parents' house but I never thought I would be able to make a connection with cats similar to the one I have with my dogs, especially with my little puppy Daisy. So let me present to you two crazy 'retards'.

Life Unleashed
At the end of a beautiful summer day I received as a gift from my friend a small ball of fur painted with white and a wonderful shade of orange. It was like a fluffy cloud caressed by the rays of the scorching sun. I named that little wonder Ares, like the well-known god of war in Greek mythology. Besides the fact that I always had a fascination with Greek mythologies, my little friend was a real warrior. He wrapped his sharp teeth in everything he caught, he barked all day long and if you tried to get close to his food you risked unleashing chaos. The first few months were a little harder, but along the way he replaced the bite with kisses and barking with a look that melted your heart. The only thing unchanged was the aggressive reaction he had when someone was trying to get close to his food, but I loved him anyway. For me it was perfect, no matter what.

If Dogs Could Think and Speak
My wife and I first met Rufio on our first trip to Australia in 2015 when we went to visit our daughter and her fiancé. We had seen pictures before, of course, but meeting this rambunctious Keltie cross was a treat. Rufio was a happy dog who loved people and who loved to go for walks. I learned early not to say the word "walk" because Rufio would fairly jump out of his skin with excitement.

The Importance of Rest. Top Story - January 2022.
This year, I have decided to take a leaf out of my dogs' book. Hours at a time, he relaxes guilt-free and warm - unshackled by responsibility and worry. I would like some of that feeling myself and thus, I must learn from him. Here I summerise my new year's resolution in three lessons from my gorgeous canine!

She tethers me
We hold paws under the desk while I write these words. Her warm fur comforting against my bare skin, feeling her gentle breathing..in out..in out. Her eyes are closed and she is exuding calmness and peace. She brings down my heart rate simply through the lightest touch of our bodies. She centres me and brings me calm. It washes over me, gently, warmly. I feel safe, unconditionally loved. I know that this peace only lasts just so long , as anything in life does. At some stage she will wake and stretch, her gentle eyes will get that cheeky gleam and she will shake off her nap and be ready for some mischief.

What I'm Here For
She was missing fur. This little border terrier/dachshund mix. She was shaky, barky, and stinky. In fact, any unpleasant adjective you can think of, it probably applied to this dog the first time I saw her. I didn’t want to keep her. She was only half potty trained and had real trust issues. She hid from me. She barked at me. She peed on my carpet. For the first few days my wife and I had her, I called her Little Asshole… I thought, the sooner we found her owner, the better. The only thing she didn’t do (that pest of a dog would do) was shed.

Twelve
I “Why is everybody moving so much around me? And why I am just lying there in the middle? I want to play the same game too! But they are not calling me; they are just looking at me with the same face they do whenever I do something they don’t like and they keep touching me all over my body. I don’t like that a bit. I prefer the other face, the one they do when we are out in the fresh, running behind each other. I like that a lot.

Lightening Strikes
"There he goes." "SKIPPYYYYY!" He got away again. Our little black and tan dog just leapt over the fence and into the alley and then onto his own adventures. The sun was hot on my skin as I had also tried to leap across the backyard. I already knew it was in vain and heaved in a sigh at the little dog, long gone.

Inspiration from a Rabbit Who Left His Mark on the World
I was sitting on the floor today when I noticed some little teeth marks along the bottom draw of a bookshelf. I knew just who had left them. For while Bertie is gone from my life, his little penchant for taking a sneaky chew on things he really had no business touching, confronts me daily. He never ate any of these things but he did like to test the waters and see what he could get away with. However much I bunny-proofed the house, and however many of his own chew toys he was given, he still from time to time liked to claim my property as his own.
