The Healing Star
My life was barren, devoid of any hope of a brighter day. I had moved to a boring town and resided in a drab, impersonal house. My days consisted of arising at the crack of dawn, drinking a lonely cup of coffee, and going to my depressing job that offered limited monetary rewards and no intrinsic ones.

Profoundly and perfectly.
You know, it’s much harder than you might think, choosing just one memory with your dog to expound upon. I’m sitting here in my homemade home office, trying to decide on which adventure with Aspen to delve into. Aspen is my now 2 year old blue heeler, border collie cross (a border heeler, if you will). She is just a little thing, about as tall as my knee is high, with smooth grey and white mottled fur, tonnes of freckles, brown socks, and a perfect black oval and black triangle (and black splotch) on her side and back. Yes, she is just a little thing, but she takes up all of the space in my day, in my mind, in my heart.

Roll-on Tears
I couldn’t get my key to turn in the deadbolt of my apartment, which was just par for the course of the kind of day I was having. I was already feeling guilty for calling it quits an hour early, and all I could think about was this was some kind of sign that I should just turn around and go back to work. My decision was made for me at the last possible moment, when the lock turned, and before I knew it, I was already halfway through the door. I was hot, and sweaty, my hair was soaked, my clothes were stuck to my skin, and about as miserable as you could be. The air was off during the day to save a dime, so my apartment was like a sauna, and smelled like someone started a gym in a speak-easy. “What else?,” I said in my out loud voice to the air you could feel on your face. “You know what?” I answered back, “I just don’t care.” There was nothing else that could go wrong with my day, at that moment.

Traveling Tales A Life Unleashed
Traveling Tales by Missy Mae If you are a dog lover, or not, I hope that by telling this tale you will understand how complete devotion changed my life. I hope at least it will help you to appreciate how animals are here to teach us humans about unconditional love. Let me introduce you to my friend Murphy. She is a Carin terrier who on the day I met never took her eyes off me once. How we came together is a whole different story and that was six years ago. Let us just say that God works in mysterious ways, and he knows better what we need then we do. I know that people think that I am crazy because where I go Murphy goes but it is only because they have never had such a loving companion like she is to me. I do not think you have to be a dog lover to appreciate when someone is there besides you because they know you need the comfort, but more importantly is that they love you. To me she is one of the best friends I have had in all my life because I know that she will not desert me, leave me, or abandon me like many humans have. She never questions what I am doing, why I am doing it, or where we are going. These are the reasons she makes the best traveling companion. My mistakes that I make, the wrong turns that I take, or the weird places that I want to stop she is always ready to accept. She does not criticize, she does not question, and she does not complain. She is always ready to go and adventure to wherever I choose to take her and these last couple of years I have taken her on some interesting travels.

Life unleashed in the wilderness
The Sierra Nevada are a rugged mountain range in California and Nevada of granite spires, high-altitude meadows, tumbling creeks, and ice cold lakes. In other words, it’s wilderness paradise, especially for backpackers like myself who like unplugging from society and roughing it for a few days.

The Hotel Incident
You disreputable assmongle! How on earth can one dog get so FILTHY? I finally managed to get 4 year old Seughie to focus for a few seconds to get him out of the Harbor at Talbert, Scotland. He was head to toe covered in fetid, black, sticky, decomposing sea filth, and surface oil. I had driven to this spot to give Seughie a "hoof." My term for taking him out and trying to exhaust him several times a day. We had been on the road for most of the day and he had more energy than usual. Now I needed to find some form of clean water source to get him somewhat respectable before we go back to the hotel... which had white everything. Sheets, carpet, towels, everything!

Leaving Our Mark
Our little Kenai came to us, the runt of the litter, a mere two pounds some odd ounces, the one least likely to survive, the one with the least expectation to thrive. But, survive and thrive he did, for our little Kenia has grown not just in size, but also in experience. He has become king over his parents and siblings, that is in terms of claimed territory. For you see our little one has marked his way throughout our nation and across Canada as well. From the day we received our mighty warrior he has been a great and amazing traveling companion, exploring and marking up areas as his own throughout several Canadian provinces and thus far 26 of our US states.
