In Memory of Alcyone, the Merciless
For a few precious hours one Friday evening, I had a pet chipmunk. When I was leaving work that day, I noticed a drenched chipmunk on the sidewalk. I assumed, quite frankly, that the animal was dead, perhaps having drowned in the heavy rains from that afternoon. I nudged the body gently with my foot. To my surprise, it tried to run away.

Princess Comes Home — Part II
So I’m carrying on a conversation with a dog. Big deal. Don’t tell me you animal lovers out there don’t talk to your fur babies or fur grand babies. It’s perfectly natural for animals to have running dialogues with their Humans. How else are we going to communicate with them, use semaphore?

We Got a Dog This Week and You Should Too
Meet Princess Eloise Blueberry! No I had no say in the name she was given, my children alone get that credit! I have no idea what breed she is, but she’s an incredibly sweet girl with lots of love. Right now she’s asleep about three feet from me and looking happy and content. She’s a rescue dog, so I was able to do my part to save one animal from the needle. It’s super important to remember that if you’re looking to get an animal, there are thousands of waiting animals at your local shelters waiting and waiting for a new home. Many if not all of them will end up being euthanized due to the extreme overpopulation and irresponsibility of owners who surrender their dog when they become inconvenient. Don’t add to that statistic!

Acquiring Samson
This is not a story that should be imitated, as a general rule. Impulse acquiring a living being nearly always leads to suffering for that creature, and humans should be better than that. My only justification is that at least I accept the lifelong responsibilities from my impulse decisions.

Wolves of the Sea
It is amazing what you can remember as a child. Whether it be the first time you watched your favourite movie or heard your favourite song. What is even more amazing, is how innocent the memory seemed. You never paid attention to what was happening in the movie, or what the lyrics said, you innocently enjoyed the moment.

A Puppy Saved My Marriage
My husband always said that he did not want a dog in our household. “Me or the dog” he would say. When we separated in the summer of 2018, I did some quick research and impulsively found a puppy that could come home to me a month later. I wasn’t sure what my husband Adam would say but I knew I had always wanted a dog. Now that the children were mostly grown it was time to do what I wanted for a change. There was a part of me that was mad our situation had come to this and I wanted to draw a line in the sand. I would no longer be stifled. I would have a say. The puppy was a huge step for me – we had always made all the decisions together in our marriage – even small things like what bathroom rug to get or the throw cushions for the couch. This was the first time I had made a major purchase without talking about it and agreeing, first.

Going Places
Well, I've been at the new job for over a month now. I have caught on and am performing well, according to my new boss. It's a challenge, learning something so broad, and serving such a wide range of clientele. I do my best, and at the end of the day, I come home feeling tired, but proud. I'm quite happy with my new lifestyle.
