Call him "Lucky" and he will find his path

How Felix found his German home

It was a rainy late winter day, still muddy and cold when something made me look at pages about dog rescue. Due to my allergies I was never able to get a dog and always felt sorry for it. Some might say it was faith, and other’s opinion would be that it was an unfulfilled need, but whatever the reason was, something about that day was different. An image of a dog popped up in my mind and a few minutes later I saw a post from a friend, about a dog in need. No, that post was not about the dog in this story, but was a trigger that made me look into groups and pages on the topic for the next few weeks. I helped some, I sent some donations to others and then I saw “him”!

There was a photo of a dog, who was radiating such a warm energy. He was tall and big, and just a bit skinny. The fur was colorful with light warm brown mixed with some white and black. The girl that took the photo wrote that he is living around the buildings in the neighborhood. Homeless, he looked like someone kicked him out as there was a collar, and he had quite good manners. No one looked for him despite all the photos she was publishing.

There were plenty of dogs that needed rescue and yet something about this one was pulling me towards him. I contacted the lady that took the photo and together we went to look for him. I could not adopt him, I knew my experience with my allergies. That was one of the reasons why I thought it was strange that I suddenly felt the need to rescue him. Nevertheless I decided I will try to find him a home. I had no experience in this, so I thought it would take less time. He was very beautiful but was growing with days and getting bigger and bigger. After I washed all the dirt from him and removed the leaves from the fur he looked happy and shiny.

After 3-4 days my allergies started big time, and that was hard. I still remember him being so careful when I took him home. Maybe he used to be someone’s pet, or he was a smart dog, but he only went to the toilet outside and was very careful not to go anywhere without permission.

I was sneezing and coughing all the time, and couldn't sleep properly because of the allergies towards the fur. I didn’t let him in the bedroom but it was hard because the flat I lived in was so small. I was cooking for him, as he tried dog food and he was getting a tummy ache. I was getting desperate and sad because all the people that asked about him changed their minds after they saw how big he was. I wanted to boost his luck, so I decided to give him a new name. We didn’t know his name, so basically everyone just called him : Come here boy!

I read a lot of names and their meaning in different languages. I wanted the name to have a good energy and to bring him luck. So I thought ….why not Luck? I didn’t see him with the name Lucky, but Felix meant lucky in Latin. The other girls were not happy as they said that Felix is a cat name :), but I knew that name would bring him luck.

Soon after that, a family from Germany contacted us. It was a lovely lady with her daughter and they wanted a dog. They fell in love with Felix and his size didn’t bother them, despite living in a flat. I was so happy, I knew a new name, positive vibration and energy would work.

Now the other question? How to send Felix from Bulgaria (I was living there at that time) to Germany. We found an airline that takes animals but unfortunately he had to be in a cage because of security (at least was a big one). We paid the ticket and we found a passenger that was flying that day. She was a friend of a friend working in Germany. She was willing to help us and to take Felix out of the airport after arrival. His new owner would wait outside. We were all so worried and excited at the same time.

This all happened years ago but I still remember his scared look when they took him on the plane. Thank God it was just a 2 hours flight. All went well and the passenger told us he was all over his new owner. Maybe he was feeling his faith, just like I felt I have to interfere after I saw his photo online. We received photos of his happy life and how well he was filling in his new German family. They said the whole neighborhood loved him. Felix found his luck.
