Black Cat Down
A true story and public plea for help

Picture, if you will, for a moment that you are a cat, specifically a black one (the reason will become clear shortly) and your owner moved leaving you behind to fend for yourself. You are suddenly outside when only yesterday you were an indoor pet but now you are all alone with only natural-born feline instincts to guide your quest for survival.
All alone yowling at the back door waiting for your master, your would-be-loving owner to return and collect you.
But they never return...
Hi! My name is Marilyn, a Vocal Media creator since 2020, animal activist, reiki master, and most importantly, a loving soul turning to the public with a true story followed by a plea for help.
Possible help from a happenstance reader who just might be willing to adopt a young female black cat AND her two kittens.
Yes, babies are involved. 🤔
This is the story of a black cat down...
The Story

At the beginning of September, my upstairs neighbors moved out, leaving their two cats behind. One male, black and white, scurries our neighborhood, rarely seen, while the other, a petite black female, has remained much closer to home. And by closer to home, specifically, on the property, nesting on the third-floor balcony, which is right above me.
Nesting, I said, well because she was pregnant; she gave birth about three weeks ago, and I have been the cat's (nickname Lil Kitty-I don't know her original name) primary caregiver since early last month.
Finding Lil Kitty's babies was a chore in itself. Newborn mews were difficult to track until my landlord and her granddaughters were able to trace the cries to a brick chimney wall, a steep one, running the length of my back porch area.

With a ladder in hand, finally, two healthy newborns were retrieved, both a black/brown/white, greyish stripey mix; one noticeably larger, and one little love much like mommy.
Way way up high, Lil Kitty kept her babies safe, particularly from a certain chubby raccoon neighbor who frequents my porch often at night.
While the kittens still remain at a safe height from predators, they now have the comfort of one of my wicker baskets lined with a printed towel.
A heartbreaking situation, to say the least, and I wish I could take in little Mama and her children, but I cannot. 😓
I already have two indoor cats, one senior male Maine Coon mix, age 16 this month, and a black female I rehomed several months ago. I cannot afford another one x2 babies, and Lil Kitty isn't too keen on other cats (which I learned when she rushed by me upon opening my back door-twice!) and went after my fur babies with hissing angst (likely a territorial gesture considering her children and her recent abandoned status).

My landlord also has two cats and although we've put out feelers in our neighborhood, so far no takers for a family of cats. The humane society and a local group Orange Street Cats have not returned multiple calls for assistance.
A black cat down on her luck, too much to bear as October becomes chilly and Halloween beckons mere weeks away...
It's a trying time as October becomes cooler and the kittens are only getting bigger. I fear for the safety of all three cats and often worry about Lil Kitty's mental/emotional state.
Yes, animals have feelings
I wish humans, people, would consider this when obtaining pets. Matter of fact, I stand corrected; people should consider the brevity of the situation when adding fur babies to their family. Family means love, dedication, committment, and the long haul.
Not a temporary lodging space or a whim decision to satisfy a passing fancy for a four legged companion.
And in the spirit of love, family, and all that is right in this world, all three cats now have names. Not just any names either. Lil Kitty is now named Moon and her kittens are appropriately named Comet (the larger one) and Starlight. I haven't sexed the pair yet so I do not know if they are male/female but still, the names remain.
My landlord's granddaughter thought of the names upon viewing an astrology chart and they resinated beautifully with this highly spiritual, kitchen witch slash everyting metaphysical and mysterious in the world woman.
So there it is, Moon, Comet, and Starlight are under my temporary care, my fur foster children, I like to call it, while a longterm plan has yet to manifest.

Ask The Public
As previously stated, no response from local shelters yet or any takers for this beautiful family of three.
And so I am reaching out to the Vocal writing community hoping a reader might be interested in adopting a black cat and her three week old (approximation, closer to four) kittens.
I am an Albany New York resident so an ideal adoptee will live in close proximity or be willing to take a drive.
No fees or monetary exchange is being requested; this is not about money. I simply want these cats to find their furr ever home.
Due to Moon's situation, I prefer rehoming her to a household that does not already have cats. She has been through enough and deserves undivided attention. Obviously, Comet and Starlight must go with her as they are nursing, so it's an all three or nothing situation. I realize this may pose a problem, but this is how it has to be.
May Goddess bless this situation and place these beauties in a new home where only love and light prevail!
Any truly interested potential new cat moms/dads may reach out to me at my email gmarilyn009@gmail
Moon was orginally featured in one of my recent entries in Vocal Media's Sensation ll Challenge.
And here is a link featured in my entry concerning black cats, superstition, and difficulty with adoptions- a timely ready for October and approaching Halloween:
I am determined to not let Moon down; she's an abandoned cat, yes, a black one, but she has so much loving energy to offer the right person.
Temporarily, that person is me and I will bide my time loving her the best way I know how.
Author's note: mom and kittens have received Reiki healing from yours truly. My gift of light, love, and appreciation for time well spent with these amazing souls!
Thanks for reading!

Many thanks to all readers and your kind comments! Marriott keeps me extremely busy at work preventing me from participating on Vocal as much as I would prefer.
I really hope someone would come forward soon to adopt Moon, Starlight and Comet 🥺❤️
Bless you for taking care of these kitties. I hope you soon find forever homes for them.
A heart-warming story about these adorable kittens and their mother. Will you let me know which is your entry about Moon. I love the names for the cat and her kittens. I hope someone will adopt them. I wrote three poems for the sensation II contest. I hope you will read them.
Our neighborhood is overrun with stray/abandoned cats. Unfortunately, Pam is highly allergic, so even if our two dogs would allow it, we couldn't take one in. It's very kind of you to take Moon and family in and try to help them find a home. I'll follow Heather's lead and share this on my author page and personal page. You never know!
Good luck with your search. You're doing a grand thing, Marilyn.
Oh goodness!! I love your heart for helping these sweet kitties. I sincerely hope someone is able to take them in! I will share this story on my author page to spread the word. Lovely write up as well :)
I am an ocean away, so there's not much I can do to help. Tipped you something towards food/litter.
