Written in the Stars

By Geralene Sukhoo

For as long as I can remember astrology and the supernatural have been a major influence on my life. From paranormal encounters and dreams, to deep diving into birth charts. My personal stories and gifted insight have captivated people in passing and through my writing. When I speak to psychics or mediums, they are shocked at my abilities.

I began writing during the pandemic as a way to ease my mind. The encounters and dreams were getting stronger. I’d read into astrology and tarot for more insight, for guidance. I was able to write two novels rather quickly and create an entire world based off of my experiences. I began journaling my manifestations and diving deeper into universal law. The connections began to show itself. It is all connected somehow. Yet, still I choose to write it as a fantasy for those who think of these occurrences as just that, fantasy.

Recently, I became homeless, on May 13, 2021, to be exact. That specific day was a significant one in astronomy and astrology. Jupiter entered Pieces at about 5pm ET and around that time I lost it all. I was kicked out of my home that I had grown up in the past 25 years. It was heartbreaking. I found an office/room to rent and currently I sleep there. The craziest part is that I manifested this.

Yes, you read correct. I manifested my homelessness. I wrote in my manifestation journal that very morning; I surrender to divine timing. I had never written or asked that of the universe before. But I felt something change, I felt a shift within myself, within my surroundings. And so began my journey.

At my old home, the one where I was kicked out of, I wasn’t able to grow yet I had the desire and resources to start my small business, but I was incredibly restricted. I strongly believe that everything I had learned from astrology and my spiritual encounters has lead me to this moment. Some may call a coincidence, in universal law, there is no such thing.

One week after losing my home and most belongings, I started my small business out of my love of astrology. I began creating out of passion but also as solace. Being creative gave my mind reprieve. I took a leap and began a TikTok account that followed my homeless to small business journey, not asking people to purchase my product but to share my story.

The following week my second novel was set to be released on Amazon on the day of the blood moon eclipse. I strongly believed that releasing a creative product during a phenomenon was a good omen. Since it was a self-published book, all of the marketing and footwork landed on my lap. Again, all of this occurred, while dealing with being homeless. What did I do? I went to the one place that could help me, social media. I reached out to BookTok, which is huge influence wise and asked if they’d like a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I said honest review because good or bad, free publicity was free publicity.

Since this book was part of a series, I already had a small fan base. When I say small fan base, I mean less than a hundred. They already knew of my paranormal encounters and dreams, so marketing was not difficult. But it was challenging! Having a handful of loyal readers as an indie author is still a huge blessing. Relying on word of mouth is always a gamble, now a gamble, I can’t afford. I started marketing both my books and my astrology creations on TikTok and Instagram. Once again only asking followers to share my story. In one week, my astrology Instagram account went from less than a thousand to over six thousand followers!

If I had the platform, it would be to market my books and small business together since they corelate. Movies have merchandise, why can’t books? Being homeless did change my work ethic tremendously. The motivation to get up and try to make enough to live, to eat, sleep safely and have a hot shower, that’s a different fire. When I said earlier that I manifested my homelessness, it was because I would have never been able to start my small business in the environment I was in.

Looking at the phrase “Time is money”, then losing material things, it stripped away my sight to a clear vision of what matters. The way I make others feel through my books, matter. Teaching others that they can manifest change in their life, matters. Allowing myself to be vulnerable on a platform to show homeless to small business is possible for anyone. If I could teach one lesson, it is that you are your most valuable asset. Without you, things are just things. But behind my business, my books and products will be seen as the homeless to small business story. That is why I emphasized people to share my posts, rather than ask for a sale. Building connections, teaching lessons, inspiring others, that will bring loyal consumers over sales. That is the marketing I am striving for.

We all put so much energy into what makes us miserable in our day to day. Working an unfulfilling job, living in toxic environments. How would your life change if you put that energy into something you’re not passionate about? I wake up now, in this tiny office and feel freedom. With that, comes courage to try and once your there, at trying point, you will never turn back. Because even if you fail on your first try, that jumping off the cliff feeling, you’ll want to feel it again. One day, you’ll be written in the stars.
