Have you ever heard this quote?

The grass is always greener on the other side...

Speaking in metaphor for a moment,

My journey starts with how I compared my life to others quite often, always looking over the fence. Not out of lusting the materialistic things others possessed. But...I did it because their grass was greener than mine, so, how did they get their grass that green from just watering? It was trying to understand how they watered their grass.

And most people won't tell you how to water your grass, they'll just say to do it. And then eventually you end up losing yourself in this unknown realm of uncertainty and a feeling of being lost because you've tried and tried....

I want to say this. It is not your fault if your grass is not as green.

Bear with me on this.

Sometimes, we forget that it is okay to look outside ourselves and use resources and receive help from others. That crossing the fence out of curiosity even if it means sacrificing your own grass for awhile is not considered selfish...

It's gaining experience to make it better.

I lived in a situation of constantly being in the same routine. Wondering what the day would bring me next. And when I was constantly disappointed I realized how unhappy I was.

I had family and friends that meant the world to me. But I was also in a state of so much uncertainty that I was no longer able to speak to them for a time and would find myself researching online on how to make my life better.

What risk was I willing to take?

Years had passed at this point, filled with emptiness because I was sure I was never going to find my way. My path.

One night... After some careful consideration, I made a hard decision to leave the comfort of my home.

I know what you may be thinking, leaving my home? Leaving the people I know? Everything I grew up in? That's crazy.

Or is it?

There are multiple reasons as to why your grass is not green despite your efforts. Where you are at, how often you water your grass, etc.

But one thing has always stood out to be greater than the rest.

My watering can was always empty. There was nothing I was giving to my grass. I did not have the energy to make my life better no matter how hard I tried, no matter what I scheduled day or night, because in the comfort zone I was in, that's as much energy it was going to give me.

See, if you are unhappy in your current situation, if you're working harder to water your grass than those around you... Why not find a new patch?

That's exactly what I did. I crossed the fence. I went far beyond it, and with constant travel I now realize one thing. My grass can be greener when the can is full. When I now feel like I have a reason for doing it.

Living far from home has been the experience that I needed to realize what reaching outside of your comfort zone is like and I was finally given resources to better my life.

Leaving home may not be what you want. But you can push yourself out of other comfort zones... writing the book you've never finished, giving a public talk, inspiring people you never thought you would.

These things are possible. They are real.

I have lived far from home for about 2 years now. I can not have been happier with my decision.

Those that say to stay stagnant and keep watering your own grass? I say they are the ones that will never know what the world has to offer.

What experience can you offer to the grass you stand on every day for the rest of your life?
