When the Clock Ticks Backward

Finding Strength in Life’s Setbacks

By Ramjan HossanPublished 8 months ago 3 min read

Time: 3 AM.
Silence surrounds. Rafi sits alone in a small rented apartment in Dhaka, holding an old diary in his hands, its pages filled with painful memories of sorrow.

At just 24 years old, Rafi feels as though he has already lost to life. The person he loved has left him, job interviews have ended in repeated failure, and his parents’ words at home only bring more disappointment. It feels like all the light in the world has gone out for him.

I’m a failure. I’m not worthy of anyone. Rafi would tell himself every night before falling asleep. But one night, a small incident suddenly turned his life around.

It was winter in December. Rafi was walking down the sidewalks of Gulistan, completely broken inside. Suddenly, his eyes caught sight of an elderly man sitting by the roadside polishing shoes. He must have been around 75, yet he was polishing each shoe with such attention as if it were his life’s only purpose.

Rafi stood beside him, silently watching for a moment. Then he asked, Uncle, why do you still work so hard at this age?

The old man looked up, smiled gently, and said, Son, without struggle, there’s no life. As a child, I dreamed of becoming a big businessman. But war, disaster, and poverty took everything away. Still, I didn’t stop. Today, I don’t just polish shoes. I try to bring smiles to people’s faces. You know, the greatest strength in life hides behind failure.

Rafi’s chest trembled. The words hit him like thunder. The greatest strength in life hides behind failure. That line etched itself into his mind.

That same night, Rafi returned home, opened a page in his diary, and wrote down a goal: I will love life again. I will rebuild myself. I will learn from failure.

From the next day, he started changing his mindset. He introduced small habits: waking up early, talking to himself for five minutes every day, doing at least one good deed a day. He made these rules part of his life.

He began learning new skills by watching YouTube digital marketing, writing, and most importantly, strategies for changing one’s mindset.

Rafi realized that the biggest battles weren’t just outside in the world, but within his own mind. He thought, What if I document this journey? Maybe it will inspire others.

So he started writing small posts about this life on Facebook, and created videos for YouTube. At first, there wasn’t much response, but he didn’t stop.

A year later, one of his videos went viral: how I Came Out of Depression. People started commenting, You’ve changed my life. I see my reflection in your story.

That’s when Rafi realized This pain was this gift. With that very pain, he was now able to bring light into the lives of others.

Today, Rafi is a successful content writer. Hundreds of thousands of people visit his Facebook page every day seeking inspiration. His most popular session. Against the Clock is an online course where he teaches how to find strength through failure.

According to Rafi. The clock always moves forward, but life sometimes walks backward to teach us something. That’s when we need to pause and understand ourselves.

This story isn’t just Rafi’s. It’s a story shared by many of us. We fail, we fall apart, but if we can find the courage to stand up even just a little, and love ourselves a bit life begins to move forward again.

Like Rafi, thousands now believe: Failure is not the end, but a doorway to a new beginning.
