What I am Thankful For

Because 2020 has been rough

By Alexandra McCormickPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

Let's face it. 2020 has been an interesting year to say the least. To the coronavirus pandemic to the presidential election and everything in between it's just been chaotic. Everybody had some type of setback due to the pandemic and somehow we still manage to get through the day. With Thanksgiving approaching I am thankful for a lot of things. Too many things to count really. But I'm going to try and list them all. Here it goes:

I am thankful for my family. With my separation and pending divorce it has been a tough year. They opened up their home to me. They let me and Lucy stay there until my apartment was ready. They put up with my antics and me whining and complaining all the time I miss being in the classroom. They are always there when I need them most. They have never let me down and I am very thankful to have them in my life. I am also very lucky to have them nearby so if I ever need somewhere to go or if my roommate is annoying me I can just go to their house and annoy them. But in all seriousness I am so very thankful for my family and I honestly don't know where I would be without them.

I am thankful for Lucy. She has been with me since I graduated college, since I started my job, and she's here now for the new chapter in our lives. She gives me nothing but unconditional love even when I make bad decisions. She is there for all the good times and the bad. I am thankful that she wants my love and attention almost every second of the day because shibas aren't supposed to be this clingy. I am thankful when she wants to play because at least at I know she hasn't slowed down, The times I have been sick she stays by my side and doesn't leave. She is my furry sidekick and I dread the day I have to say goodbye. But until then I hope we have many adventures together and maybe she will tell me who her new daddy should be (haha).

I am very thankful to still have my job. Despite the fact that schools are closed where I am, I am still very thankful and blessed to be able to teach from home. It's not the same as if I were in the classroom but I'm thankful that I still get to interact with my students, teach them and watch them learn new things and see their big smiles coming to class everyday. And I somehow end up with the smartest group of kids (that's what every teacher says, haha). I can't wait to be back in the classroom teaching, but with the current circumstances I am very thankful to even be teaching. The last thing I want is one of my students to get sick or myself to get sick or anybody else in the building for that matter.

Last but not least I am thankful for my best friend. He has been there since the beginning of my separation and now pending divorce. He puts up with all my drama, and the anxiety and depression that comes with it. He deals with my lashing out because of all the stress going on. He is patient with me and has been there for me whenever I needed him most. I've had many friends and many best friends but nobody has ever compared to him in terms of someone who understands me and knows how to deal with my annoying tail. I am just thankful he is here and hopefully he'll be my best friend for life because at this point I don't know if I can deal with the way things are now without him.

I'm also thankful for the basic things too like food, water and a roof over my head. With this pandemic there are people who are losing these basic things and would probably do anything to get them back. I hope that people can recover in the following year after we have a new president in office and maybe government can finally do their jobs.

But nonetheless these are the things that I am thankful for. What are you thankful for?

happiness
