I’m a thalassophile 🦋

When you have a college resume, meeting someone new or trying to find yourself many people start by asking if they know who they are. Even then it’s okay to not know because sometimes time is infinite and you can find out eventually but if you don’t know who you are how can you expect to get respect, love or even acknowledgment.

I know who I am as a person because I took my time to find out. Nevertheless, knowing who you are doesn’t prepare you for how your life goes, just sets a standard for how you should be treated. Imagine trying to love someone without loving yourself first, half of the time you get treated how you think is the best way you should be treated but if you know who you are, you’d understand what’s right, what’s wrong and of course try to understand what other people consider right and wrong. However, the best form of love is self love or appreciation, to gain that you need self respect. Now you don’t have to listen to me because I’m nothing but a teenager but this teenager tried and failed several things in her lifetime to give a little advice.

To gain self respect most of time involves looking in the mirror and realizing how valuable and worthy you are. For example, many gain self respect from self esteem or self confidence, but that doesn’t mean if your self esteem is low you don’t care about yourself. Dignity plays an important role in self respect because if you can’t see yourself doing that action, you don’t want people questioning your character. People wouldn’t wanna stand up for or be around someone with no self respect so how would you gain acknowledgement? By now you could be thinking, “She’s just talking, she doesn’t know if this is true or not”, but as I said before Im just a teen trying to give awareness to why you should take the time to know yourself.

I didn’t expect for this to be a essay but if you’ve read this far, your interested or I could just be sounding smart to you. Don’t you want people to treat you like a human being, like you exist just like everyone else? If you don’t have self respect, you won’t care about your character. If you don’t love yourself, loving somebody wouldn’t work out and would effect how you view yourself. For people to be aware of your existence or acknowledge you, it’s best to know who you are. If you know who you are and proud of it, everyone will know who you are.
