The Unknown Future
The first time I went to Las Vegas I visited an art museum and took a picture of this photo. This is what it feels like to have an unknown future. Written by: Odies Gee III

A dream is a dream and it can only become reality with work. It is the unknown future that one must pursue and conquer obstacles on the journey to making your dream reality. In the year 2007 I enrolled in college to pursue an undergrad in Business Management all in pursuit of owning and managing my business, a dream. My anticipation is through the roof I'm just excited about my new journey and what lie ahead. Like in the photo there is a black mask covering eyes that are closed signifying vision blockage. This was me in the height of my excitement not knowing what obstacles I would face as I maneuver through this four-year journey I'm embarking upon.
My first day of college in a small setting, I am sitting in class after getting off the city bus as I am in pursuit of a better future. The instructor/facilitator as he said during his intro. After all the intros around the class I met a lot of good people that also began their journey. This is the unknown future. Now we begin, the first taught me how to study and research practice on how the college wants its students to write papers and the style in which we write them. Also, forming and presenting a PowerPoint presentation regarding the instructor provided topic. During this course with this instructor it was 6 weeks and I learned a great deal about working in teams and presenting and so much. At the over every week we would receive a progress report and my grades looked great each week I was B+ A- and at the end of the course my final grade was a B-.
This grade did not add up in my brain and one evening I decided to contact my instructor to ask about my final grade. Here we go, I call my instructor and I introduce myself so he will know who he is communicating with, and then I explain the purpose of my call. This is the unknown future. Mr. I am calling to discuss my final grade received. I noticed I received a B- and my weekly reports all reflect B+ up to A-. How did I receive a B- Mr.? His reply was the definition of the title. My very first instructor said some things that would break someone more emotional and with no vision. Mr. said to me that THE GRADE YOU RECEIVED IS THE GRADE YOU EARNED AND YOU REALLY SHOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN THE GRADE I GAVE YOU. YOU COME CALLING ME ABOUT A GRADE AND I AM DEALING WITH MY WIFE WHO WAS IN A COMMA BRAIN DEAD 8 MONTHS PREGNANT I OUGHT TO FAIL YOU, YOU DON'T DESERVE TO PASS!!! He pause for a second and I respond with a soft tone empathizing with his situation and once more he responded YOU NEED TO BE NORMAL! then hung-up in my face. I never envisioned that my first instructor would act like this because I was inquiring about my grade. At this moment the both of us was experiencing the unknown future as he likely never envisioned his wife being brain dead and nearly losing their baby, the state he was in was clearly one of anger and this is exactly what I felt from him, anger.
This one of many obstacles faced in my journey would shape my confidence, resilience, focus, determination, and fortitude as I never gave up and continued to pursue my goal of graduating with my undergrad. Through all the unknown future events that occurred in my life I learned one valuable lesson, success only comes after the test of your faith, self-confidence and resilience. Never quit when something unknown creeps into your known vision it is happening to make you stronger. Your dreams can become reality as I did earn my undergrad on the road of The unknown future.
