The Spark Within

How a Village Boy Became a Voice for the World

By Rahimullah MohmandPublished 8 months ago 3 min read

In a quiet village, nestled among the hills of a forgotten land, lived a boy named Kareem. His feet were bare, his clothes were torn, but his eyes carried the light of a thousand stars. He didn’t own much, but he had a dream — a dream too big for a place too small.

Every morning, Kareem walked five miles to a humble school. The path was rough, sometimes muddy, sometimes burning with heat, but he walked it with hope in his heart. He would whisper to himself,

“One day, my voice will matter. One day, they will listen.”

---

The Laugh Behind the Wall

At school, Kareem was different. His English was broken. His handwriting was messy. The other kids laughed when he stood up to read. They mocked his accent. They whispered behind their hands. But Kareem never stopped trying. He believed in something they couldn’t see — the power of growth, the strength of persistence.

One day, the teacher said,

“We’re having a speech competition. The theme is ‘Change Begins With Me.’ Who wants to participate?”

The room fell silent. No one moved.

Then, a hand slowly rose. It was Kareem’s.

Laughter broke out like thunder.

“You? You can’t even say your name right!” someone shouted.

But Kareem stood tall. “Maybe I can’t say it right today,” he said softly, “but tomorrow, I might say it better than anyone.”

The Long Nights of Practice

That night, Kareem didn’t sleep. By candlelight, he wrote. Then rewrote. Then practiced aloud — again, and again, and again. His mother watched from the corner, tears in her eyes. They had no books, no internet, but they had faith — and that was enough.

He stood before a mirror.

“I am Kareem. I believe in change.”

His voice cracked.

“I am Kareem. I believe in change.”

His voice rose.

“I am Kareem, and I am the change!”

His voice rang with fire.

The Day of the Speech

On the day of the competition, the room was full. Students. Teachers. Even people from the nearby towns had come. Kareem stood backstage, his hands shaking. He looked at the crowd. His fears rose like a storm — but he remembered his mother’s words:

“Fear is a shadow. It disappears when you face the light.”

He stepped on stage.

At first, silence.

Then — a breath. A word.

“My name is Kareem. I come from a place where voices are quiet… but not because we have nothing to say. We are quiet because the world has never listened. But today, I speak. Not just for me — but for every child who dreams in silence.”

The room leaned in.

“I am the son of a farmer. I study by candlelight. I walk barefoot, not because I have no shoes, but because I have no choice. Yet, I carry within me something more valuable than gold — I carry hope.”

Tears welled up in the eyes of the teachers. Students sat frozen.

“Change does not come when the world is ready. It comes when you are ready to stand, even if your legs are weak. Speak, even if your voice shakes. Try, even if you might fail.”

He ended with a line that echoed through the walls:

“I am Kareem… and this is only the beginning.”

A Voice Heard Around the World

Kareem won that day. But more than the trophy, he won hearts.

News of his speech spread. A video made its way online. Days later, messages came from people around the world — teachers, students, leaders. They called him “The Boy With the Brave Voice.”

A scholarship followed. Then college. Then a platform to speak to youth across nations. His words lit fires in places he had never seen.

But Kareem never forgot where he came from.

Every year, he returned to the same school. He walked the same five miles. And he told the students:

“Your voice matters. Even if the world laughs… speak. Even if no one claps… speak. Even if your knees shake… stand. Because one day, someone will listen — and that moment will change everything.”

Final Words for the Listener

So, if you are listening today, and you feel small…

If you feel unheard, unseen, unwanted…

Remember Kareem.

You are not alone.

You are not weak.

You are not forgotten.

There is a spark within you — waiting to rise.

Light it.

Live it.

And let the world feel your fire.
