The simple pleasures of life

The Beauty of Life's Simple Moments

By AaradhyaPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

It was a usual Wednesday evening, as I walked out of my apartment complex for a brief walk. My apartment complex is a considerable one, and getting lost within its vast boundaries is effortless. This evening, however, I had a particular destination in mind. I decided to take a stroll around the nearby park.

As I entered the park's gates, I spotted an old man seated on a bench close by. The old man was surrounded by pigeons, chirping and cooing all around him. It was a mesmerizing sight. The old man seemed to be feeding the birds. As I approached the bench, the old man looked up, giving me a small nod, before focusing his attention back to the birds.

It had been a hectic week for me, with deadlines to meet and projects to finish. I hadn't had the time to stop and appreciate life's little moments. This, however, felt like an opportunity to do just that.

I sat on a bench across from the old man and observed. The old man seemed to have a natural rapport with the pigeons, as they sat comfortably near him. As he fed them, he would talk to them, sharing stories and tidbits of his life. He was a friendly and charismatic character.

I watched as he carefully handed each bird some bread. Each of the birds seemed to have its own unique personality, some more outgoing than others. One in particular, a large, plump pigeon, caught my attention. The bird strutted up to the old man, holding its head high. It was clear that this bird was in charge.

The old man chuckled, "well, hello there, you're looking good today. Have you been bulking up?"

It was a silly conversation, but one that seemed to bring joy to both the pigeons and the old man. As I watched, I couldn't help but feel happy too. For a moment, it seemed like the world had stopped around us, and we were just enjoying life.

Eventually, it was time for me to leave. As I got up from the bench, I noticed the old man was watching me. I walked over to him and asked, "Can I ask you something?"

The old man nodded.

"What is it about birds that you love so much?" I asked.

He took a deep breath, "Well, I suppose it's the simplicity of it all. You know, humans have such complex lives. We're always running around, trying to be the best, making money, and so on. But these birds, they just live. They don't have many worries; they don't have many needs. They just exist, living in the moment. It's a beautiful thing, really."

I was taken aback by the old man's words. It was something so simple, yet so profound. He was right. We, as humans, often get caught up in the complexities of life, forgetting that perhaps the most significant moments come from the simplest of things.

As I walked back to my apartment complex, I couldn't help but think about the old man and the birds. Something about that moment had left a lasting impact on me. It made me realize how important it was to appreciate life's small moments. I made a mental note to try and do that every day.

It's been years since that Wednesday evening, but the memory of the old man and the birds still remains with me. It's a small moment in life that had a big impact, reminding me to slow down and appreciate life's simple pleasures.
