The Evaluation Of Time
A reevaluation of your dedications
For many 2020 has been a solid brick wall on the train tracks of life, some have found ways to go over said wall, others found ways to smash it down, while some took a complete u-turn. For me it got me thinking on where I want that tracks on the other side to lead. It has got me to examen how I dedicated my time to preCOVID, do I still believe in the causes I have dedicated my life to? Do my actions represent those decisions? And the most important of question all is; why am I doing this?
Like many, I have always dedicated my time and energy to specific causes, some have been start-up companies with a mission to make a change others have been religious entities out to make a change in their local communities. I did it because I believed in the cause and wanted to use my time in things that matter, but it got me thinking did I actually believe in these causes or was it merely because it is the right thing to do. Some might say who cares whether you believe or not, just do your bit and move on, but then I ask what’s the point if time is precious shouldn’t we spend it doing things that we believe in? What I realised is that in order to dedicate your time to a cause your actions need to benefit and represent that cause. This can be stretched into our relationships, friendships etc, e.g if you love your partner and want to spend your time with this person, your actions should be positive towards that person meaning you not going cheat on them or bring them harm.
If you dont believe and understand what you are dedicating your time to, your actions towards that particular thing will not be genuine and will be done in a just to get by sort of way. That is why i started to take stock of how i spend my time, because if I don't believe, agree or back the morals or belief of said cause or person, then my time will be wasted. This has also allowed me to examine my actions whether it be my work ethic or how I treat my friends and family, by doing so I was able to align my actions to be more beneficial to said cause or person.
I know this sounds fluffy and a bit out there, but I found myself slaving away for causes that I dont believe in anymore. I am not saying quit your job and get rid of your friends and family, all I am saying is look at how you spend your time, you might need to realign your beliefs and actions, and by doing this your time you spend will be more efficient and beneficial and not merely spent looking at the clock waiting for to tick it’s way to 5 o’clock.
