The Current Reward Has a Short Life
We Must Have Long-Term Goals!
It often happens that we receive advice such as: "Live the moment!" or "The time to act is now." These are wise words, and being aware of the present is a wonderful way to live life.
But who says it's good for us to always get what we want when we want it? We can indulge in this situation or we can become lazy.
The reward of the moment is tempting, and in these times, even at a young age, it is easy to obtain
We have access to fast things - information, food, technology, entertainment, comfort. We must not make an effort to satisfy our desires. In most cases, we have access to goods or services that give us instant satisfaction, solving our requests.
But what we lose are the lessons and the rewards in case we delay the satisfaction from the end a little. Because when we have to fight harder to achieve the reward, we feel that we are developing on a personal level. We also get the feeling that we are aiming for long-term goals and reaping the benefits of the process itself, which must ensure our satisfaction.
We must not deprive ourselves of the good things in life to maintain a balance. It's just a matter of compulsion and extra care. We must be aware of the decisions we make and have limits.
The momentary reward leads to debt, disorder, poor health, inattention. While constraint and awareness lead to simplicity, health and movement, power of concentration, success, care, and appreciation of all the gifts of life.
In a world centered on luxury and technology, it is easy to move away from our core values and the really important things in life. We begin to prioritize superficial things: objects, material goods, acquisitions, and appearances.
We eliminate the need to know what the future holds and the possible consequences of our actions. We do not take into account waste, damage to our health or the environment, or any other possible immediate adverse effects, consequences of our actions.
Letting go of the pleasures of the moment is a narrow thought - immediate pleasure is fleeting
Our disappointment with short-term pleasures will increase the intensity of our needs the next time we seek to fulfill them. This can often lead to unforeseen and yet disastrous costs, such as addiction. We can always give examples. Abuse of certain foods, alcohol, drugs, technology (internet, games), even seemingly innocent pleasures, such as shopping or diet and fitness care, can all become obsessive and upside-down.
This does not mean that we should completely cancel the opportunity to enjoy these things as well. We just have to be more discriminating with the help we render toward other people.
There is a difference between living our lives and wasting our lives. Of course, it is wiser to live in the moment and take advantage of the things that make us happy, but it is more important to have healthy actions and a plan for the future. We need vision and analysis to ensure this balance.
Motivation is the key to long-term goals. And small steps and although towards big goals
Instead of lying in need of immediate satisfaction, we should be on guard and in control. This will allow us to compose long-term desires that we can fulfill, instead of asking for continuous encouragement to succeed.
Awareness of needs is a key issue. We can keep a list and every time we have a need, not to try to fulfill it on the spot, but to pass it on this list as a "to-do" note. Examples of such deferred needs are: checking the phone, grunting, unnecessary shopping.
We must not deny a need, but only postpone the reward for a certain period or put the distance between us and the object of our desire.
The key to success is to keep the power of our consciousness constant, which we think and feel. Sometimes we don't even feel when, in our need to satisfy a desire, we devour a whole box of ice cream or put millions of lei in gambling. If that's what we want to do, it's okay, but let's make a conscious decision. Let's take responsibility!
Techniques are learned, they take time, but we must allow ourselves to learn from lessons over time. If we are always accustomed to momentary pleasures as a constant way of life, do not expect to change overnight. Let's evolve with each experience! Let us make mistakes and strive to resist more for the future.
In the end, we will have the strength and discipline to enjoy the moment without falling into the trap of instant pleasures.
We will have the feeling that we have achieved important things, that we can test our will. This new skill can give us greater satisfaction, it can even save our lives; quitting smoking is just one extremely important example.
Investing in the future is no longer fashionable. With a great power of concentration and exercise, we can learn to plan for the long term and constantly, to reduce the need for immediate gratification.
We can find the balance and, at the same time, enjoy the goodness of life without exaggerating and without making decisions with side effects.
