The Bright Ideas Writing Helper
Book and Card deck to inspire a story or poem

The Bright Ideas Writing Helper
Hey everyone!
I’ve been meaning to share something truly special that has been a constant companion in my writing journey: the Bright Idea Story Deck. I stumbled upon this gem on Amazon back in the '90s, and honestly, it has been a lifesaver for my creativity and confidence ever since!
This deck is a treasure trove of inspiration for anyone interested in storytelling or poetry. Whenever I hit a creative block, my go-to move is to shuffle the cards and pull, say, three to five, or even seven of them. I can easily sit for hours, enjoying the process of mixing and matching ideas. Just looking at the gorgeous illustrations on the cards instantly wakes my brain up! It’s like having a little spark of inspiration that I can call my own. I often joke that it’s my equivalent to AI, and boy, does it work wonders!
What’s even more delightful is that my grandsons love trying them out too. Watching their eyes light up as they draw cards and create their own stories is a joy. It fosters their creativity and gives them a chance to explore the world of writing in a fun and engaging way. It’s wonderful to share this experience with them, bridging generations through the love of storytelling.
The deck comes with an insightful book filled with tips and strategies that guide you through exploring the prompts. It offers so many ideas about each card, making it easy to read and understand. In fact, it’s so accessible that even a child can create a masterpiece! There’s something for everyone, no matter your writing level. It has taught me to embrace spontaneity and playfulness in my writing. I’ve gained so much confidence through this process—one of my favorite prompts even led me to a story I still hold dear today!
A Poem Inspired by the Bright Idea Story Deck
In a deck of cards, bright and bold,
Stories and adventures waiting to unfold.
I shuffle them gently, let my thoughts roam,
Inspiration flows, it feels like home.
With each card I pick, a spark ignites,
New characters, plots, and late-night writes.
My grandsons join in, their laughter rings,
Creating tales together, oh, the joy it brings!
The cards are a guide, simple and clear,
Even a child can make a story appear.
With colors and images that dance in my mind,
Endless possibilities, endlessly kind.
So here’s to the moments of creativity’s grace,
To the stories we share and the time we embrace.
With the Bright Ideas Deck, let your imagination soar,
Every shuffle, every prompt – there’s always more!
I truly believe the Bright Idea Story Deck can be a wonderful addition to any writer's toolkit. Whether you’re crafting a heartfelt poem or brainstorming ideas for a short story, this deck encourages you to trust your instincts and dream big.
So, if you’re on the lookout for a creative boost, I can’t recommend this classic enough! It’s been a game changer for me over the years, and I have no doubt it can inspire you too. Let’s continue to support one another in our creative journeys!
I also have ither card and book sets I bought from Amazon. If any one wants to see them please ask and I will do a write about them. I have wrote from being 10 years old. I was encouraged by my dad who was good at drawing not poetry. He used to buy me books and pens/pencils every pay day. We would spend hours having fun. My mam too could draw, but I think dad got her into Art. Mam was more into learning me to read well and doing maths. Both of them loved spending time with me and my books and pens. God bless them both. So this is me saying The end ❤️
Happy writing, my friends!

About the Creator

I've been writing poetry since the age of fourteen. With pen in hand, I wander through realms unseen. The pen holds power; ink reveals hidden thoughts. A poet may speak truth or weave a tale. You decide. Let pen and ink capture your mind❤️

These remind me of Story Starters pictures that young children can see and 'write' or tell their stories. I had these when I was a teacher of young children.
