The 10 Most Important Life Lesson Nobody Has Ever Told Us in Our Lives

We've learned a lot throughout the years doing this, and since we all come from different backgrounds, we've been exposed to a range of things that have given us a lot of valuable lessons.

Intriguingly, we wonder, "Why aren't more people talking about this?" every time we learn a new lesson. So, in this essay, I've gathered some of the best secrets that nobody else is telling you. Continue reading

1. Whether you like it or not, you tell a story every day.

Why, if you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, would Netflix spend millions optimizing their movie posters or Mr. Beast be willing to spend $10,000 on a YouTube thumbnail? The way you present yourself to the world, whether you like it or not, says something about you. If you stay in bed all day watching Netflix, you are fabricating a narrative about who you are.

It says something if you show up to your brother's wedding in flip-flops. If you go to the grocery store in your pajamas, you are telling a story. Then, what story are you telling the world?

2. You are far more flexible than you might think.

You know you don't need the latest iPhone, but you also know that everything else is really just a bonus once you have access to shelter, food, and water. When you stop to think about it, you have a higher standard of living than the majority of kings and queens in the past 1000 years have ever had, and they managed just fine. You've grown accustomed to a certain way of life, and certain things make your life easier and your downtime more enjoyable.

3. You don't have any rights at all.

Just because you think you deserve something doesn't mean that anyone has to give it to you. The situation is how it is. It is unfair, just like many other things in this world. You must be knowledgeable about how to manage situations like this.

Therefore, despite your college education and great degree, no one is interested in hiring you because they demand 25 years of experience even for an internship. You're furious. You swear and complain about how unjust the world is. What's this? It will keep repeating itself.

4. You are on your own.

There is a saying that goes, "If you want to move fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together." But make no mistake, you are on your own. Nobody should be concerned about you as much as you should be. If you don't take care of yourself, no one else will.

Each person is the star of their own independent film. They all have different goals and drives. They occasionally might momentarily match yours. No matter how long you live, whether it's a few weeks, a few years, or your entire lifetime, you will always be solely responsible for taking care of yourself.

5. Nearly all advice is useless.

The truth is that most advice is ineffectual for two reasons, despite the apparent paradox in a movie about teachings and guidance.

Since no one is ever in precisely your situation, it must first have been someone else who has successfully navigated it.

Even something as straightforward as laying eggs can be accomplished in a variety of ways. There are about 18 recipes to choose from. Testing out a piece of advice to determine if it works for your specific scenario is the only way to turn ineffective advice into helpful counsel. You see, when someone gives you advice, they are not held responsible. You can choose whether to take action or not. It could succeed or it could fail. It doesn't matter from their perspective. It is your responsibility to compile all the minor components that might be relevant to your particular situation and test them out independently.

6. Even when it's painful for you, keep pushing.

Have you ever been on your way home and gotten caught in the rain? Actually, there isn't much you can do to stop the rain right now. There is nothing else to do but carry on pushing forward.

When you're going through a really challenging time in your life, it stinks to be you. One important lesson to learn is to simply keep moving forward, especially if there isn't much you can do about it at the moment. Hopefully, things will gradually get better and the sky will once again be clear. Just carry on forward. Everything in life is temporary. Things will improve.

7. If you don't continue to put in the effort to earn it, your prize will expire.

It doesn't follow that you will always be someone's best friend just because you were their best buddy ten years ago. Both of these are true. Even if you may have made a mistake in the past, this does not mean that you will repeat it. Gain the titles you wish to keep and drop the ones that no longer accurately describe you.

We recently came across this one in a book, and it surprised us. We genuinely love it. Although we were aware that prior achievement did not ensure future success, this specific blow was unique. If you played football in college, you cannot now identify as an athlete.

8. Give first, then take.

Many people find this troubling because the general attitude is, "Okay, but what's in it for me?" As a result, they begin with their perspective, which may be flawed logic, but even if you are slightly deceived, you won't suffer much.

If you lend a friend $100 and they don't return it despite numerous warnings, it costs you $100 to discover that they are extremely lousy with money and unreliable. In the long run, giving first will open up far more doors than it would close.

9. Most people, including you, are probably foolish.

You are probably more stupid than you realize, and most things are simpler than you think. Although we know you think you're bright, you probably don't know as much as you think you do because there are likely many things you don't know that you don't know.

You need to be aware of this and develop a growth mindset. You are inherently on a learning journey from the moment of your birth till the moment of your death.

10. No door opens when another one closes on its own.

Things happen without your involvement; you are merely present when they do. Opportunities are no different. People use the door metaphor to comfort themselves, but they shouldn't take it to mean any particular pattern or wise advice. Simply put, that isn't how it works.

Finally, Realizing that you are merely a blip in the boundless cosmos gives you a more liberating sensation. Interestingly, when you stop taking life so seriously, you improve as a person.
