She Didn't Know
“What a beautiful morning”, Shelli said to herself as she rolled over and opened her eyes. The birds chirped a melody that brought life to the rising of each morning for her. The sun spilled through her small old broken unlocked window, barely warming her face. “Thank you”, she said in a faint whisper to herself. She lay there taking in a few more moments of natural harmony. With her eyes shut she drew in a few more deep breaths, and opened her eyes.

My Beginning
It wasn't like I hadn't gone through the motions before, the end of the school year was always so hectic. After wrapping up my social clubs and saying goodbye to friends for the last time, this year was somehow different . Summer started in no time and I had never felt so lost until now.

The Man and the Hole
A man went walking through the woods. As he walked he breathed deeply of the fresh air. His eyes and ears drank up all the beauty around him. Though he’d walked this path many times before, this time, He was so enthralled with what he saw and what he heard that he decided to stray from the beaten path. Distracted by creation, he lost track of time, and soon the sun plummeted below the horizon like a weary eyelid closing for rest; as it did shadows chased each other among the magnificent trees. One of these shadows happened to disguise a deep hole and tripped the man who fell down the deep shaft.

The Little Black Book and the Challenge
A strange thing happened to me last week. As I was sitting in my study reading, the bell rang. I went to answer, and as the entry to my portico swung and the morning light flooded through the room, I caught the silhouette of an unfamiliar figure standing on my stoop with a small package. He was a tall, well-dressed man. I said “hello.” He said, “message for you sir,” handed me the package, and turned and walked away. Confused, I took the package, politely said thank you, turned, and closed the door.

Cha Ching!
Big money! Big money! Big money! Bring me that jackpot baby! Can you smell it? It's Vegas. The lights, the strip, tall drinks, high heels, the three-piece suits, and the actual smell of perfume, alcohol, and smoke all rolled up in one. I get a nice breeze every time someone walks by. Tonight is the night though. I can feel it in my toes! I am going to win. There is a random raffle name drawing for the Grandfather Grand Prize of $2 million dollars plus an orange Infiniti FX45 and a surprise, mysterious package in the glovebox. I began humming to myself the Happy Birthday tune.

I Am My Own Inspiration
I Am My Inspiration For many years I was asked who inspired me and why. I always found that question to be challenging because no one person inspired me. I believe that my inspiration comes from my young self. I am inspired when I look at my past and how far I came. A fews years back I was a lost black girl who did not know herself. I was conflicted within after losing my father. I felt like I no longer had a home or did not belong. I spent years trying to fit in with my peers and my surroundings but I simply did not fit in. I became an outcast.

Black In Between The Cracks
“Your skin is not only dark, it shines and it tells your story. Keep dancing, they can’t control you. They watch and they all adore you. If ever you are in doubt, remember what Mama told you.” —Beyonce Knowles, “Brown Skin Girl” (July 2019)
