Dear 12 Year Old Me;
Dear 12 year old me, and dear the ones who hurt me. I forgive you. II'm proud of you for having the courage to post this even though you were made fun of for it and you look back at yourself and literally cringe. You were just a kid who lost your innocence at such a young age and did everything you could to hold onto it. Even if it meant putting yourself out there like that. Those people that made fun of you and hurt you were only fooling themselves, they didn't know what had happened to you and what your intentions were.

Control your Compass
You’re the compass. Your compass is internal and worn in. Your compass is comprised of your essence, energy, heart, soul and mind. Your direction is your vision for your life. It’s comprised of your character, moral values and life quest. Stop letting other people direct your vision compass. Don’t let anyone get control of your compass and misguide your true path to success.

Astray.
The serene silence, elevating my senses. Alone on an island, surrounded by thousands of miles of water. All I see is a lonesome boat on the horizon where the clear blue sky, meets the deep sapphire sea. I've tried escaping this place countless of times but now it all seems pointless; I've cut down trees to make raft after raft, yet to no avail I sunk into the salty waves which dragged me back to this lonesome place. The trees grow back after each failed attempt, as if to mock me.

Black folk please stop the in-house racism
I have dealt with racist remarks from other African Americans my whole life. Ive been called a white girl, asked if I am mixed, was told I was high yellow, light bright and damn near white, and referred to as a paleface. My mother’s paternal grandfather was white but my mom only looked like a light skinned black girl. I came out of the womb lighter than both of my parents and anyone in my family except a great aunt. . My 3 children have their dad’s coloring which is a few shades darker than mine.

Keep Your Head Up
'I spoke to God today. He was Black man with a bad knee and the names of his four children tattooed on his right arm. He interrupted my self-care routine of calmly sitting on the rocks by the water as music plays through my headphones and the events of the week and next week and the week prior and the rest of my life filter violently through my anxiety. “Are you ok man?” he said when I finally brought down my headphones. “Look at you” he continued “your face all red” as I laughed and assured him that everything was ok. “I see you out here with your head down. I know man. I don’t know what’s goin’ on and I don’t gotta know. You just keep your motherfuckin’ head up. You hear me? No matter what’s goin’ on you keep your motherfuckin’ head up. Never let ‘em see you put it down. You understand me? Keep that motherfuckin’ head up.” As he hobbled away across the rocks I kept my motherfuckin’ head up and I smiled more genuinely than I had all day. Uncertain if he had done more for my posture or my mental health. The water calm out toward the horizon, the birds dancing in the sky, I listened to the music as his words played over and over in my head. "Keep your motherfuckin’ head up." Amen.'
