How to heal fully and properly.
The Healing Power of The Mind
Retired NFL Hall of Famer Vince Colden was invited as a guest speaker at the Maxfield High School graduating class of 2020. Two hundred and thirty-five eager young minds asked lots of questions mainly related to sports. One female sat in the front listening to every question and answer, her eyes trained at Vince in deep thought. She furled and unfurled her brows at several of the queries and responses, always smiling.

Can Computer Programming Heal You?
I discovered programming at the age of 35, which, to be honest, I think is pretty late if you compare to the young folks working in high tech who program practically since their fingers were able to type on a keyboard. Before that, I was a full-time musician, working in recording studios and playing gigs all around the world.

I thought my life was over...
I thought my life was over. In 2011, I suffered a traumatic brain injury as the result of a bad fall. I had to relearn how to read, how to write, I struggled with finding words and understanding them. I could no longer do the tasks associated with my job as a web developer. I could no longer do the hobbies I had before – I couldn't even drive. In the blink of an eye, my entire life changed and what I had left was several years of appointments with every type of therapist you could imagine and a whole lot of struggle and grief.

The Story of Dennis
This is Dennis. He is a koala furry persona. Let me tell you his story. Not to be immodest, but from a young age, creativity has come naturally to me. Every day my mind is full with ideas for stories, sketches, characters, games, - never seeming to stop. As a child, a bit of a loner, my hobbies were all the creative kind – I’d write about different worlds, their legends and characters. I branched into sketching, and then, physical costume design, all of it connecting to worlds of my own. The one thing I couldn’t connect to was other people until I found a like minded group of other creatives. Others, who, like me, are inspired to create in other more diverse artistic areas, but I still couldn’t find an emotional balance or excel in the places that mattered.

Pleat Let Me Go
How do you feel? How does completing a project that took about a year and a half of talk and only 20 minutes of real work make you feel? Exactly. Different. The former usually involves a few factors, an ethereal matter. The latter weighs you down something fierce.

The Best Medicine
My daughter was diagnosed with depression when she was only 16 years old, about one year later as we were sitting in the car, she revealed to me that she had been cutting her wrist with a blade, and she was having suicide thoughts, she looked very scared. It was certainly one of the saddest days of my entire life, but I felt proud that somehow she had found the courage to talk to me and tell me about her ordeal, we were able to find help and she is now recovering and getting better each day.But that summer we decided to take a trip to the beach (Ventura Seaward, CA.) to get away from the city. As soon as we arrived, she decided to go in the water by herself and enjoy the waves, I was then able to take a couple of pictures as she was walking and diving in.

Never Be Afraid
I met Freddy after he escaped within an inch of his life from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He came as a political refugee to the United States... alone. Concerned about his captors' ability to find his family, he didn't return there after his escape. During his hasty flight to America, His family lost their phone and number. He wrestled with frustration in attempts to locate them. It would be two years before he did and three years till they were reunited.

My Passion Found Me
I did not find my passion. My passion found me - when I took the time to listen. The entire journey was fraught with skepticism and doubts, with wrong turns and delays. I do not know why, but knowing the self is one of the most difficult things in the world. From whichever angle you start to dig, the physical, mental, emotional or the academic or the hobby, it seems the deeper and deeper you dig, the more it merges with the spiritual realm. The key? To continuously search yourself. And to only stop when you know from inside that you have arrived. When you are surrounded by peace, instead of doubt. This cannot be taught as the answer is different within each one of ourselves. It is a journey each one has to embark on their own, once you permit yourself to proceed.

Creating Happiness
“You know you won’t win the 4-H contest, don’t you?” My mother asked as she cut the fabric of a summer shirt. “Why not?” I was confused by her question. I knew it wasn’t guaranteed that I would even earn a place in the competition, but it would be a blue-ribbon cherry on top if I did. I was looking forward to strutting down the mall’s mezzanine in the outfit I made for myself, mostly by myself. I imagined how proud I’d be in the 60’s style lime green A-line tank and striped clamdiggers, carrying my doll, Molly, in her matching duds. It wouldn’t be easy, but I had been practicing sewing clothes for my dolls, making increasingly complex garments. Plus, my mom would be there to help me with the hardest parts, like the zipper on the pants.

"Collages of the Coronavirus Pandemic" inspired by being in lockdown
When the Coronavirus Pandemic started in March of 2020, I felt like I needed to express how this event was affecting our social world. Covid 19 was the beginning of limitations for everyone and society was going from socializing in the public to being isolated in lockdown. Since society was isolated in the lockdown, I decided to take advantage of the time by creating an art collection that I titled, "Collages of the Coronavirus Pandemic". I came up with 10 different ideas to express through my art collages. I started with the closings of restaurants and finished with what society could be like again after the pandemic. It was important to me, as an artist, to put my feelings into art because my social life was affected as much as everyone else in the world. I could not shake a person's hand or even meet a friend for lunch on my day off. Many social lives were damaged due to the limitations that Covid 19 created during this difficult time.
