How I Earned $74 in 46 Days on Vocal
I joined Vocal on February 4th. Honestly, I had never heard of Vocal until I noticed a Facebook post advertising a short story challenge. The thought of winning a $20,000 prize for a story about a "Little Black Book" lured me in. So, I signed up for the Vocal+ 3 month trial, for $4.99, for the sole purpose of wowing the judges and winning a substantial cash prize. I blew the dust off some old stories and buckled down and wrote several new pieces, submitting a total of a dozen stories to the challenge.

Be willing to try
I wonder how many times you’ve had an idea, nothing big, but you know that if you follow it through it will be just enough to keep the party going? It always sounds good in our head, but the prospects of the reality and the possible repercussion scare us.

The Mirror has Two Faces
When you look in the mirror what do you see? If you're like me, it might depend on the day. Some days I'm a fierce warrior ready to take on anything the world has to throw at me. Other days my reflection pleads for me to stay inside so others don't have to witness my splotchy skin, untamed hair and my mismatched pajamas.

Lost Time Is Never Found Again
One of the most happiest and memorable days of my life was the day my daughter was born, back in February 2017. Although she gave us a bit of a surprise in entering the world two months earlier than we we had expected, those memories of her birth, and the next few weeks proceeding, will live in my mind forever. As a premature baby, she was obviously required to enter straight into the intensive care unit, although that was very brief, as she would then be transferred into special care after just two days. I'll always cherish those memories of seeing her in her little fishbowl crib, with a tube attached to her nose, her little smurf hat on, and then having the wonderful opportunity of being able to nurse her gently against my chest in the ward, on several occasions. She looked so cute, innocent, and peaceful. Even though there were around 6 or so weeks of going back and forward from home to the hospital each day, it never really bothered me. I was just grateful to all the staff at the two hospitals in which she spent her time in, as they cared for her incredibly well. It's hard to believe that it's already been 4 years since her birth and her hospital stint, and now she's growing up so fast. She doesn't stop talking and there's barely a moment I have in peace, but I love her with all my heart, and she is my world. At that time, back in 2017, I was still working at my full time job at a financial institution, hating every minute of it. I was just so sick and tired of getting up at the crack of dawn, battling through peak hour traffic, turning up to a workplace that was always understaffed, working for a company in which they didn't truly care for, or truly value, their employees, but instead set ridiculous sales expectations for them, and I was fed up with having to work back overtime each night, because I wasn't allocated appropriate time during the day to get the actions for my customers completed. I hated my job, yet for just over 10 years, I stayed there for the sake of my paycheck. I was educated to believe that I simply had to have a job, and there were no other legal options for income generation.

Getting into a Flow State
Humans are meant to create. We do it without even realizing. When we cook something, when we choose an outfit to showcase our style, when we organize a shelf - we are creating. This sort of creating is different from making music, painting, or writing. It’s more subconscious, but still nonetheless, we’re all innately creative beings from a young age. The world dulls our creativity as we grow up because we learn to become domesticated in our day to day functions. Getting into a flow state is tapping into the subconscious, reuniting with the creative liberty we possessed as children.

4. The practice of open mindfulness to receive your answers.
Four is a magical number that connects mind-body-spirit with the external world. Four represents our want and need for stability, solidity, calmness, and power, it additionally symbolizes our want for protection. We can only construct our aspirations and goals effectively when the foundation is solid. This first step starts with our mindset, we need to develop strong self-serving values and beliefs. This allows us to create a sacred sanctuary within our homes, so we may be able to meditate and explore our inner terrain. Freedom is when we learn to listen to our inner voice so that we may hear the calling of our true purpose in life. Number four is an indication that the universe is receiving your frequency and presenting you with love, support, encouragement, and inner-power. Remember the start is continually hard, don’t give up, endurance and patience are key.
