“The accomplishment of your dreams will demand big sacrifice and hard work.” - Lailah Gifty Akita

Sacrifice is defined as an act of giving up something valued, for the sake of obtaining something else regarded as more important or worthy. Irrespective of the definition, what does sacrifice actually mean to you personally? There are three specific examples, that come to mind, when I think of the those who are the epitome of sacrifice. Unfortunately, this particular platform prevents my full freedom of speech, so I cannot share two of those three examples, but the third of these three examples of sacrifice and bravery, we have witnessed in recent history, or are even witnessing as we speak. We can't go past thinking about those before us who sacrificed their lives, just to go to war, in a bid to protect their respective countries, and its citizens. Even today, our service men and women continue to place their lives at risk, in order to protect us and our borders, from those evil enough to be plotting war and terrorism. Now that takes absolute guts and pure selflessness to place your own life at risk in order to save others, and protect their way of life. Let's take a moment though, to look at the ordinary everyday common person, specifically those who live their own life in pure selfishness and disregard for others, taking for granted what our war veterans, our service men and women, fought for or are fighting for. We have selfless and brave individuals who are placing their life on the line, in order to protect our way of life and our freedom, so we can enjoy a future blessed with happiness, success, prosperity, and freedom, and yet here are the majority of us that aren't even prepared to make sacrifices of our own, to honor the bravery and commitment of these individuals. I'm talking about the fact so many of us can't even get off our bums and make sacrifices in life, even just to achieve our own goals. These type of sacrifices are in no comparison to the sacrifices committed by those on the frontline, as we are far from placing our life in grave danger.

We are given the blessing and opportunity to create a wonderful life for ourselves, and yet we're not prepared to sacrifice in order to achieve such a life. Achieving our goals isn't a given. We need to work hard, commit ourselves wholeheartedly, and exercise lots of patience. Not only that, but we also need to make sacrifices in order to prioritize the time towards the actions working towards our goal, and part ways with various people and assets along the journey. The actions that are progressing towards achieving our goal should always be a priority for us, every single day. I think we are all well aware of how precious time is, and how little of it there is in a day, so maximizing every minute is vital. With achieving our goals being one of the most important components to achieving happiness success and prosperity in life, we need to make sure that we are constantly focusing on accomplishing them. That means that we need to sacrifice other activities in order to free up the time to work on those actions. With these such activities that we should be sacrificing, when we compare them to the sacrifices that our service men and women are making each and every day, it's extremely embarrassing that we are not already doing so, and it highlights exactly where our true priorities lie in life.

We choose to scroll through social media, just to check for any gossip. We choose to laze on the couch watching television. We choose to play video games. We choose to spend endless amounts of time on the phone to our friends. We choose to sleep in. We choose to go out socializing all the time with our friends. We choose to go out drinking with our friends. We choose to go out clothes shopping. We choose to spend unnecessary time surfing the internet. We choose to spend time watching movies. We choose to spend time being lazy and unproductive. People say that there isn't enough time in a day, but the truth is, people just don't use their time effectively and wisely. They waste precious minutes on activities that are non productive, and not in anyway benefiting their future. Granted that we need to pause for a mental break at times during the day, as we can't always be running at full steam, but the problem is that many of us don't pause, we waste time. Also granted that we should have time with our friends, and enjoy some time out with them, but we also need to learn to say "no" at times, and allocate more time to creating a better future for ourselves. Basically, the way to look at it is, we need to be sacrificing activities that provide us with short term satisfaction, and trade them in for completing the actions that are working towards our goal, so we can create long term satisfaction, happiness, and prosperity. It's not to say we still can't do activities that are enjoyable, fun, and provide us with satisfaction, but we need to constantly commit to working towards our goals, and many times, we need to sacrifice some of these enjoyable, fun, and satisfying, activities.

Sacrifice may also come in the way of people. We no doubt love our friends, our partner, our family, and perhaps our workmates, but guaranteed, there are always those around us who are negative minded, unsupportive, and demotivating. They are the type of person that can drag you down from being happy and motivated, to being miserable and depressed, in a heartbeat. They are constantly pessimistic, and are always resorting to talking gossip and constant negativity. These individuals are toxic to our success and future, and we need to distance ourselves from them. Perhaps we can't part ways with the likes of our parents or other family members, to an extent, but we can certainly disengage from them, and minimize the conversation and interaction we have with them. We need to be spending more time with positive minded, supportive, uplifting, and inspirational individuals. Don't be afraid to sacrifice a relationship or friendship, if it is in your best interest for your happiness, well-being, success, and future. Then there are our assets and valuables. When I think of entrepreneurship, I think of the struggles one has to go through in order to maintain cash flow, just to keep a business alive, especially early in the piece. When other various sources of obtaining cash begin to dry up, sometimes it comes back to a case of selling some assets and valuables, in order to inject some cash back into the business. Now that's not an easy thing to do, let me tell you, I've been there. Something might have sentimental value, or something may be worth a bit, however it all comes back to the definition I started today's blog with; giving up something valued in a bid to obtain something more valuable or worthy. I would say that your future, your happiness, your success, and achieving your goals, should win out every time. It takes courage and it takes will power, but considering there are those willing to sacrifice their own lives for others, this form of sacrifice isn't even in the same league.

There are no excuses as to why we shouldn't be making numerous sacrifices right now, so we can create a future we desire, and accomplish our goals. The real reason behind why you are not committing yourself to working on achieving your goals isn't because of a lack of time, it's because you are living in fear, or you doubt in your ability to achieve your goals, or you basically couldn't be bothered taking action, or you are not willing to make sacrifices, or perhaps, all of the above. If other people can actually place their own life at risk, and sacrifice themselves just to protect you, then it is well and truly within you, to have the courage to make sacrifices in order to create the future of your desire, and to chase down your goals. What changes are you prepared to make? What risks are you going to take? What actions are you going to take? What sacrifices are you going to make? What sort of future are you truly prepared to create for yourself? You have been granted this wonderful opportunity to create a future blessed with happiness, success, fulfillment, satisfaction, and prosperity, for yourself, don't abuse that right. Start sacrificing to succeed!
