She is in the sky...

Courage in Women’s Clothing

Every day we are faced with a choice. Choosing one path or another, we believe it will lead us to a better version of ourselves. Every day we unconsciously give in to emotions and adjust our actions, which inevitably leads us to the same result. We… will become… the best… version… of ourselves.

It sounds like a motivational program from a leading psychologist who promises you mountains of victories after therapy. Or like part of a promotional program of a famous business coach who will promise you the same fate… But this is the story of just one person who, unafraid of prejudice, changed our understanding of human capabilities.

The beginning of this story sounds more like a joke. At the age of 23, she took to the sky for 10 dollars. That was the price of a flight with navigator Frankie Hawks. From that moment on, she could no longer imagine her life without flying. Anita Snook, also legendary in the world of aviation and the first woman to own a commercial airfield, became her mentor. Later, with her support, the young woman bought a used biplane and, after receiving a pilot’s license from the International Aeronautical Federation, became the sixteenth woman in the world to hold such a license.

“Never interrupt someone doing what you said couldn’t be done” was the motto of her life. She attempted what others could not. She was born to soar above the world in her Lockheed Vega 5B and in 1932 to cross the Atlantic Ocean alone. She was born to be the first in everything and to overcome the fears imposed by society on everyone except her.

Her plan was a round-the-world journey, and thanks to her perseverance and faith in herself, she did begin this flight. A woman who set such a goal and possessed extraordinary technical knowledge personally checked the aircraft before every takeoff. The landing gear, tail assembly, flaps — all this and much more were carefully inspected before each flight.

A great person is talented in everything. After her flight across the Atlantic Ocean, she wrote the book “20 Hours 40 Minutes: Our Flight in the Friendship.” Thus she also became a writer — more precisely, a technical writer and, in a sense, an autobiographer.

She had the courage to begin what almost no one of her time dared to do. She had the courage to rise to an altitude of 5,613 meters above sea level in the Pitcairn PCA-2 Autogyro. “The most effective way to do it is to do it.” And this was the main rule of her life: if you want to achieve something, just act, and your boldest dreams will come true.

She followed her dream and never stopped on her path, even when the path was not easy. She did not look back and forever remained an example to us that what is impossible in theory becomes reality in practice one day. For “Adventure is worthwhile in itself.”

She was the first woman to complete a solo transcontinental flight across the United States. She truly became the best version of herself. She… is still in the sky… She is Amelia Earhart!

A great woman, an example that a person is capable of the boldest dreams, and that their fulfillment depends only on ourselves. If we dare to take a risk, then perhaps we will be able, even if only slightly, to change this world and show others that miracles are among us — we simply need to breathe life into them.

P.S. With respect to a great pilot. "The more one does, the more one can do.”
