Life is harsh, unpredictable, fragile. Its no news. We are all traversing its terrains. We are programmed to not quit the walk, so we keep trekking.
But we complain of the altitude, brambles, slushy mud, mosquitoes, cold, misbehavior of the fellow hikers, as we move through the trails. We decide to opt out, and sit there as a bystander. We complain that we are depressed. The journey is not fun. The people in the caravan are not friendly.
We need help, therapy, pills.
Really?
Can’t we just rest, change our perspectives and start hiking again?
I was not born into privileges. But I am 42, and for two things, I lead a pretty balanced life.
🌿Nature love
🌿Upskilling
Lets talk nature love!
Its the keen observation, awareness, and excitement to see nature and its components. You feel thrill, joy, and peace in it's bosom.
From early childhood, I started to commune with nature.
To pay attention to the maidenhair fern poking out of the brick wall, the mushrooms sprouting from rotting straw pile, the stork flying with a twig in its beak, the sparkling water puddle on the taro leaves, the smell of marigold flowers, the vibrant colors of palash flowers, the therapeutic effect of monsoon rain. You got it.
Being mesmerized by the way nature operates!
Feeling blessed to be able to experience these wonders.
The benefits of these practice is that, you don’t consider yourself alone or superior. You don’t consider them commodity for your consumption. You feel obliged to live in harmony with them. It positively shapes your mindset and approach towards life.
Through my changing life phases, and situations, I kept this nature adoration hobby intact. With time, it became even stronger.
And California, where I have already spent 14 years, amplified the pursuit with its nature abundance. I was life a bee released into a Spring meadow of wildflowers. Spoilt for choice!
Lets see how you go about it:
Autumn is round the corner. The nandina bush leaves are sporting frenzy of pigments. Water drops on them creating a gem-like feel.
Nature can paint too. A twig of Chinese rain tree blown by the wind fell on the sidewalk. Rain etched its edges. The wind moved the twig again, for us to be amazed by the twig art.
Smell the striped roses from neighbor’s front yard. A deep inhalation with eyes shut, and you are right in your childhood, in your father’s garden.
The blazing cascade of fountain bush flowers. They will take your breathe away with their prolific blooms and ruby brilliance.

See the dazzling orange canopy of the crepe myrtle tree fall, creating a carpet on the ground. Nobody defies nature’s rhythm.
Soak in the landscape. Be grateful to be witnessing its glory. Believe it or not, this practice is healing. You don’t need those chemical pellets and cocktails.
Gaze at the clovers on the lawn, the intricate beauty of passion flowers, taste a feijoa from a street-side plant, see the resin exuding from the tree in hot summer, the Sphinx moth sucking nectar from the calendula, the serene pear flowers, the mourning dove cooing on neighbor’s roof, the spurge growing from the crack of concrete, the dew-studded cobweb. Do I need to go on? You got it.

You explore the flora, fauna, seasonal surprises where you live!
Nature therapy will be enough to improve your mental health! It will fix the neurotransmitters, by weaving its biochemical wand.
Dabble in nature today. Be curious and banish the term ‘depression’ from your vocabulary.
